He’s not taken seriously by non-Mormon scholars...
Is he even taken seriously by
Mormon scholars? That's a serious question. It would seem the reason Interpreter now funds his research is because BYU decided it wasn't worth paying for.
I exchanged quite a few emails with Kyler and with Dan on this Interpreter series, when it first started to drop.
My impression is that they are so blinded by motivated reasoning, they cannot accept the notion of seeking an unbiased review of their content. They do not believe such a thing can exist, being so committed to their imaginary “war.”
Anyone who disagrees with Kyler’s methodology, no matter how clearly articulated the disagreement, is dismissed due to anti Mormon bias. Kyler might be competent in performance of his day job, but I found him to be closed off entirely to the idea that people, scholars - BYU scholars even - could review his precious pet material unbiased to his conclusions. He doesn’t want to hear feedback that is motivated only by rigorous adherence to essential principles of statistical analysis. It’s incredibly sophomoric, immature playing at scholarship.

It's also mixing three different and totally unrelated fields. He wishes to use statistical math about historical claims in order to prove them beyond a reasonable doubt. There's a reason why these types of arguments are not used in courts of law. As the old saying goes, "you can prove anything with statistics." It's a terrible travesty to use mathematical tools in historical or religious disputes.

That impish God! I thought the Bible Codes were a little more on target for God's impish sense of humor since they appealed to a wider audience.
But maybe he and Royal were good buddies in the pre-existence -- "good one Elohim! 'ya got me!"
God putting Early Modern English in the Book of Mormon for Royal was kind of like Bill Hamblin's Metcalfe acrostic to Dan.
