Floodlit.org - database of alleged and confirmed Mormon sexual offenders

Post by drumdude »

https://floodlit.org/

FLOODLIT provides information about instances of sexual abuse or sex crimes allegedly perpetrated by leaders or members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS/Mormon). Every instance (“case”) comes from public sources such as police records, court documents and mainstream news articles.

Search our database or browse our database of accused persons

We also provide a map of information about arrests, prison time and places lived of the accused.

View the FLOODLIT map

FLOODLIT conducts research and publishes reports about the LDS church (Mormon church) response to individual sex crime accusations, allegations of organizational misconduct regarding sexual abuse, and public demands for reform.

FLOODLIT is not an advocacy organization, and we take no position on possible solutions for any crisis.

Our mission is to report fairly and accurately on this important topic, and to help survivors be heard.

You can add information or donate to support our research.

I hope this gets more coverage. Sexual abuse is most often dismissed without any investigation, and even after a couple thousand confirmed cases they start to be less of an outrage and more of a statistic.

I’m sure there’s a ton of skeletons in current and former LDS leaders’ history that the church would rather stay forgotten forever.

The map feature really drills it home instead of just being an abstract number of victims.

Working through the holidays on adding data points to the map from information in the hundreds of listings of accused individuals.

The hope is that it will help people see that this is something that may be "closer to home" than they realize.

We wrestled with this decision of whether to include those particular map markers. We don't have proof that the abuse occurred, but the allegations exist and we think they merit further study, based on what we've found so far.

David Lee Hamblin is the only person arrested so far, as far as FLOODLIT is aware, in connection with the ongoing Utah ritualistic abuse investigation. His listing in our database is here:
https://floodlit.org/a/a148/

An official press release from the Utah County Sheriff's Office dated 2022-05-31:
https://sheriff.utahcounty.gov/media/sh ... ?ID=240505

It states in part: "In April of 2021, an investigation began into ritualistic child sexual abuse and child sex trafficking that occurred in Utah County.  The ensuing investigation discovered that other victims had previously reported similar forms of ritualistic sexual abuse and trafficking that occurred in Utah County, Juab County, and Sanpete County during the time between 1990 and 2010. Portions of these allegations were confirmed."

It's growing for sure. There are hundreds of probable cause affidavit PDFs and court/news documents we're sifting through as quickly as we can, and we'll try to find the best way to add those directly to the website. For now, we're linking out to every publicly available information source.

Every person in our database has been publicly accused of sexual abuse or another sex crime - we're simply tracking the information and news related to these cases.

We're also writing reports about the history of the LDS church's response to sexual abuse allegations, the formation of the "help line" (telephone hotline established in 1995 for bishops/leaders to call), and other related topics.
