Religious Deconversion

Post by hauslern »

Recent census have confirmed that the fastest growing demographic in religion is that of the huge growth in the number who are considered "nones". They leave religion of any kind. There is an interesting paper in Patheos.com
https://www.patheos.com/blogs/switching ... tian-west/
. Begins with a crisis followed by a period of seeking
. Deconverts tend to come from fundamentalist churches.
.High profile Christians who are making their exit public
.What personality types using Myer Briggs tend to leave:
"One of the main findings was that those with a Myers-Briggs type have beeending in TP were much more likely to become adult atheists than those with a Myers-Briggs type ending in FJ. This confirmed something that was already known from studies using the more academic Big 5 model of personality. According to that model, individuals with Low Agreeableness and Low Conscientiousness are more likely to be nonreligious. Because Low Agreeableness correlates with Thinking (T) and Low Conscientiousness with Perceiving (P), the finding from the current study confirmed the existing findings. However, the introduction of Myers-Briggs terminology allows for labels that are more neutral and more widely known in the general population."

"A well known Christian apologist C S Lewis wrote "if you examined a hundred people who had left their faith in Christianity, I wonder how many of them would turn out to have been reasoned out of it by honest argument? Do not people simply drift away' Based on current research; it appears that this assumption is incorrect. It turns out for many people honest argument.. is exactly what leads them to lose their faith"

It seems that much of the distaste for religion among the youth is because they see how intolerant older religious people are, particularly to LGBT people.

They see the blatant hypocrisy in a religion that says one thing (love everyone) but does another (excludes LGBT). And they're not particularly interested in religious rationalizations for the disgusting doctrine.
