Dan Petersen's idea of epistemology

Post by hauslern »

There is an interesting paper on Petersen's idea of epistemology or ways of knowing. I think his position is there should be some evidence plus a spiritual witness. His idea is that if there were slam dunk evidence there is no need for faith.

I have been reading a little by English philosopher W. K. Clifford.

Some quotes of his work:

" "It is always, everywhere, and for anyone to believe anything on insufficient evidence."
" "It is wrong always, everywhere, and for anyone to ignore evidence that is relevant to his beliefs, or to dismiss relevant evidence in a facile way."

Take for example the Book of Abraham. There has been a movement in the position taken by LDS apologists that Smith's interpretations of the facsimiles are wrong to the contents of the Book of Abraham were given by revelation.
