Just listening to GC. I do believe Cook's talk is priming the audience for something having to do with China or Russia is coming up. He is talking about the gathering of Israel, and the importance of the islands of the seas, etc. Earlier this week there was a national news item that China is wooing Mormonism. Cook mentions Asians, Australians, and isles of the sea for the gathering. This is priming us for Mormonism to go into either China or Russia. That's my speculation and I am making it on Saturday at 11:20 a.m. Missionaries and growth and expansion, especially in S. America and Africa. Everyone else in the world is responding..... I tell you he is priming for China or Russia....... Russell is about to make an announcement in this GC that has something to do with China and/or Russia. Cook says we need to prepare the Gospel for those in darkness he said. It sure seems like he is attempting to get everyone ready, really praising Nelson for his expanding the Gathering of Israel..... They have already decided it, but will make it look like a new revelation, ongoing revelation to demonstrate Church is true and guided.

I don't think China would be very receptive to Mormonism. Membership in Tawain is tanking right now (lost 2 Stakes, 11 Wards and 12 branches in the last few years). Membership in Hong Kong is shrinking too along with Korea and Japan.

Growing up in the Church I would always hear that once China opened up for missionary work, it would be days of wine and roses for membership growth. Looking at how the Church is shrinking in Asia, I think China would be a very tough nut to crack.

My prediction is the Church would struggle to even find a foothold in China due to political, cultural and social reasons.

Very interesting. Maybe there has been some financial promises made to China by the Church.

The probability is quite low of anything with China happening, but Cook is definitely priming the audience for expansion across the world for missionaries. I mean, when it comes to China, all kinds of conspiracies are flying around both inside Mormonism and outside. The world news knows China is trying desperately to get influence in the USA, and Mormonism wants into China badly (why I have no flippin idea, well, I do, but it's likely not to happen) so the two have common goals it would seem, and they apparently could be of good use to each other. The FBI is keeping its eyes on BOTH Mormonism and China, a good thing.

Everyone wants to influence everyone else, and they have to take their time and slowly build trust, so gossip can run rampant, I may very well have to eat my words, but Cook is still priming people for God knows what... I'll stick with China and if I am wrong, so be it, it would make good sense though. And if its not China, it's something big in the world we can't predict until they say what it is. I figure, they have to come up with something exciting for Mormonism to remain viable. I say China would be simply gigantic, we shall see...
