I think that horse meat is also illegal in the United States. The status of tapir eating is unknown since the huge California Tapirs disappeared at the end of the ice age along with the wooly mammoth. I recently read that the events of the Book of Mormon may have occurred prior to the end of the last ice age. It would be great if an enterprising apologist could expand on this Pleistocene Theory in the Interpreter Journal.
