Jury awards Riverside woman $2.3 billion in a sex abuse lawsuit that involved the Mormon church

A Riverside Superior Court jury awarded a woman $2.28 billion Tuesday for the sexual abuse she endured for years committed by her stepfather, her attorney announced.

The 39-year-old Riverside woman, known in the lawsuit as Jane Doe, sued for damages against her stepfather, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and her mother, who she said knew about the sexual abuse but did nothing to protect her, according to a news release by the law firm of Gary Dordick.
This is just a symbolic award since the Church settled for $1 million. Most likely the Church will appeal to the California Supreme Court over its right to hide such crimes from law enforcement.

Sad that the stepfather only spent three years in prison. I imagine having your mother not do anything about the abuse and remaining married to the abuser for two years after the conviction. That must have been just as scarring as the abuse by the stepfather. This child was betrayed by the very people in her life who should have been protecting her. Did the church ever repent for its actions or lack there of?

Point of clarification: 1 million against the church, the 2 billion is against the stepfather.
