BYP Responds to Thoughtful Faith, Defending Dan McClellen

Here I find the You Tuber "Thoughtful Faith" has simply not thought through much of anything against Dan McClellen, and..... as usual...... I say so..... a good 12-15 minute romp through the obfuscation for you all to enjoy.

I bumped into the Thoughtful Faith podcast by accident shortly after it came out. I posted a link up in my homosexuality thread in the Celestial forum. It's readily apparent that Dan McClellen does not agree with the policies of the Church with regard to the ban of homosexual relations regardless of sexual orientation. The Church has forbidden the expression of gay love and punishes those who do express their love and natural attractions which are an inherent quality of who they are.

The LDS Church is wrong, wrong, wrong. Period. End of story.

Here is a very interesting 20 minute podcast that explores how homosexuality is being hotly contested within movements of modern Mormonism:

The Woke Worldview Part 5: LDS Professor Dan McClellan, A Case Study.

Opens with a both barrels blast from the extreme right. Woke and people concerned about social inequalities are taking peoples free agency away in preparation for a Stalin style dictated society. At the moment the blast is aimed at Dan but of course it means moderate Republicans and those untouchables further left.

I had not quite realized how focused the anti woke propaganda had become but a moment refocus and I hear the some old arguments as from John Birch on why Eisenhower and Martin Luther King were both communist dupes. I can sympathize with both Dan and Philo on this but I cannot help but think they are going up against the Mormon fortress.

Dan McClellan is an important force in unmasking the tapestry of Mormonism. However. Keep in mind he still is a member and insulates his own version of Mormonism away from scrutiny. Leaving it a personal choice. This Tanner/ Palmer force field that shields their own views of spirituality while decrying others is fine for debunking and web traffic but leaves little in the real quest for what is true.

Riverdale,
Tanners look with careful focus on a small area of human experience. It makes sense for personal understanding to keep a wider view. Is that what you mean by "leaves little in the real quest for what is true"? I find your phrase a bit puzzling. It sounds like you see a particular path to discovering what is true. You sound like you are saying Dan, The Tanners or Palmer are not taking that path. How so?

There is enough variety in how people understand things that it is not a surprise to me that I find some of what Dan Mcclellan says straightforward and some of it puzzling or doubtful.

Sandra Tanner has mentioned that one of their criticisms involves using the same Mormon scrutiny on their version of Christianity. Her rebuttal is to merely say that if she did... it still doesn't excuse Mormonism's problems. This seems like a strange epistemology. If one is trying to find real justified true belief this seems like a type of micromanagement. I guess we all do this. We have to swim in the water we live in.

You seem to really, really, really want to hijack this thread for a discussion of my former student Dan McClellan. Why?
Former student as in, just happened to take a class from him?

Or former student as in actually had a working relationship?

So why hasn't Dan been crowing up Dan McClellan and his materials and engaging with him concerning biblical scholarship? That just seems odd doesn't it? Dan is attempting here to insinuate himself into some credibility having been the so-called master to the now wildly famous student. Why hasn't Dan been out there cheering him on and co-videoing with him on biblical exegesis? Just seems odd to me is all. Those two together could kick out some fascinating materials, even while disagreeing. Or is it that Dan can't stand to even associate with anyone who has a different take on things than his, because his always has to be the best and correct?
