I'm beginning to think thinking isn't at all Peterson's forté. All he does is defend LDS-ism no matter how stupid, contrived or arrogant they act.Marcus wrote: ↑Wed Aug 16, 2023 12:21 amThis is ridiculous. When zoning variance hearings are held, municipalities specifically want to hear from neighbors. In my municipality, neighbors within 200 ft of the location of the variance request are specifically invited to the hearings....At a distance, and without any polling data, it’s impossible to know whether those who oppose the construction of the temple in Cody — or (the three positions are distinct, and all three have been expressed) those who oppose the construction of the particular temple design announced for Cody, or those who oppose the building of the temple in the particular location within Cody for which it has been announced — represent a majority of the residents of the town or merely a small but vocal minority....
The decision being made favors the zoning code first, not the group asking for a variance. So Peterson's implication here that "merely a small but vocal minority" shouldn't have a significant voice is inappropriate, at best.
But, logical thinking is not Peterson's forté.

I wonder if their dense prophets and apostles will ever figure it out... We can take it to the bank their apologists won't.malkie wrote: ↑Wed Aug 16, 2023 1:39 amAs a recent poll showed, for religions in general, net antipathy towards any religious group is reduced when you get to know them. Fair would like you to believe the media itself is driving hostility towards the LDS church. They just woke up one day and decided on a whim to pick on Mormons.
But it's actually much more likely a natural and expected response to decades of bad behavior from LDS leaders.![]()

Soooooooo full of B.S..This federal lawsuit would be separate from the District Court appeals. "Engaging in a protracted legal battle does not align with our values, and we have a responsibility to be prudent stewards of taxpayer dollars," the statement said.

I imagine the residents of Cody, Wyoming are feeling bulldozed by the Mormon Church.

Just to be clear, that last sentence was a quote from the City Council, explaining why it backed down in the face of a damages suit that the church threatened to bring if the Council didn't approve the temple.Philo Sofee wrote: ↑Tue Sep 19, 2023 11:06 pmFrom their statement:Rivendale wrote: ↑Tue Sep 19, 2023 7:46 pmThe Church wins in Cody Wyoming.

Nice little town you got here. It'd be a shame if it went broke....

It's interesting how Peterson chooses to portray residential opponents of the plan to build a Mormon temple in Cody.
He believes them to be liars or bigots.

https://www.patheos.com/blogs/danpeters ... raham.htmlI haven’t been to Cody for a number of years now and, when I’ve been there in the past, I certainly haven’t been examining the as-yet unannounced site for the as-yet unannounced temple. However, based on this extremely important video and, now, on looking at these photographs of the proposed construction site, I have a really, really difficult time imagining how the 9500-square-foot temple (situated on its own nearly-five-acre grounds) will ruin the neighborhood, or dominate the city, or block views of the sky, or obliterate the surrounding hills, or replace them as Cody’s most obvious feature. Which, in turn, tempts me to suspect disingenuousness on the part of at least some of those who have raised those particular objections. (Of course, the folks who oppose the construction of the temple on openly theological or religious grounds — and flatly object to allowing the building of any temple anywhere, as some have expressly done — are free of any taint of disingenuousness; they are unashamed bigots who don’t believe in religious freedom.)
