I think in 20 years they can expand it to young male Mormon missionaries. I was wondering why I was so unhappy in the summer of 1980 at 19 years of age and about to enter the MTC. I think it's starting to become clear. Thank you to all who put this podcast together. It's five stars.

I am halfway through it. The striker group to meet the immigrants was something I never heard of. I also knew they had groups to buy immigrants larger possessions when the got off the boats and promised to sell it back at jacked up prices. Some immigrants were disowned by their family back in Europe for turning Mormon.

Mormon Stories and Mormonism Live have both discussed that most immigrants were women. This makes sense since the Mormons were harvesting the women for polygamous brides. Wives would be taken from their husbands and then become the 4th wife of some old goat polygamist.

This was kept secret so as not to frighten away converts lured to Utah with high-minded religious talk. No one would agree to be sexually trafficked.

This practice was not completely unknown to some. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's first Sherlock Holmes novel, A Study in Scarlet, was about being trafficked by the Mormons.

Moksha, I think many moons ago Uncle Dale posted an old news paper article from around 1870 and in the Kansas City area. A bunch of Scandinavian women on a train found out that they were going to be polygamous wives in Utah. A big fight start. They were not happy campers.

Seems unanimous. Mormon god gets a reboot and his main priority? Establishing a network of men using women for sexual conquests. As John said, when Jesus is Mortal it is all about peace and love but the minute he is in heaven all hell breaks loose.

This episode was a hard listen, thinking back on members of my own family tree who, despite the brave face and lifetime of devoted commitment, may have suffered as victims of polygamous human trafficking. I wonder what further research might yield. One has to wonder if the most damning evidence is being deliberately hidden in church granite vaults.

There was something about this episode that connected the dots for me regarding systemic abuse towards women and men. The aggregate of information, the secrecy and the resulting full throttle practice by future leaders was unsettling. I agree it was hard to listen to and I live emmersed in an area where most are willfully ignorant about it ....equally unsettling.

Seriously. Lately, the genealogists in my family have been writing up and releasing the journal entries of more and more relatives. It's not admitted outright, but as I match up their names on the pedigree charts the stories become more clear. The evidence, as you put it, is truly damning. The damage done to women by this hideous rule of polygamy was severe, and unconscionable. It took its toll on life after life after life of these women, who were almost treated as disposable, or interchangeable at best.

Yet Mormon apologists love to argue how much countless polygamist wives loved living polygamy. Didn’t you know they wrote letters about it and spoke up in favor of legislating it?
