This is the 2nd arrest in an ongoing investigation into allegations of ritual or ritualistic sexual abuse in Utah dating back over 30 years.
The accused is the daughter of Mormon scholar Richard Lloyd Anderson and the granddaughter of longtime BYU professor Gerrit de Jong, after whom current LDS apostle Gerrit Gong is named.
She is also the ex-wife of a man who was arrested last year on child sexual abuse charges connected to the same ritual abuse investigation.
Gerrit Gong spoke at the accused’s mother’s funeral in 2022. The accused spoke as well. Gong’s mother was adopted by the accused’s grandfather.
She has been charged with one felony count of sodomy on a child.

Richard Lloyd Anderson is noteworthy as the preeminent scholar of the witnesses to the Book of Mormon.
Daniel Peterson has said multiple times lately that there is definitely no more child abuse in the LDS church than anywhere else. I think we’re going to see that claim tested over the next years, especially as people connected to high profile Mormons are caught. And it’s thanks to the website floodlit.org that these cases are being given the spotlight they deserve.
In the last year, I’ve been made aware of two BYU professors that were involved with child abuse. One was the best friend of Gordon B. Hinkley, a former mission president and former temple president. He was also a very close friend of mine.
And, most, if not all of the child abuse took place after his Second Anointing.
He has since passed, but I still remain very close to his family. The whole thing has been devastating to them and to me.
"I'm on paid sabbatical from BYU in exchange for my promise to use this time to finish two books."
Hugh Nibley claimed he bumped into Adolf Hitler, Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill, Gertrude Stein, and the Grand Duke Vladimir Romanoff. Dishonesty is baked into Mormonism.

The best time to do it right? salvation is guaranteed, and according to the D&C every sin of the flesh can be committed and it's immediately forgiven. As long as he didn't deny Casper, he's okay.

And the church still teaches that discernment is a magic power that the brethren really do possess.
I guess it only works for discerning the most important spiritual matters, like discerning if someone is a full tithe payer. For trivial issues like child abuse, it's completely useless.
When they mention ritualistic sex abuse in Utah County, it makes me wonder whether Reformed Egyptian attire or priesthood ordinances were incorporated into the ceremony.

That’s awful. I’m so sorry to hear that. Please message me or go to https://floodlit.org/report-abuse/ and let me more what you can about them. There may be more victims out there.
Her husband's sexual abuse is pretty scary. He was a therapist. He would convince patients that they had been victims of Satanic Ritual Abuse and then recommend that they have sex with him as a "cure." He would pronounce a blessing on his sperm before having sex with the patient.
There seems to be a potential political angle to the investigation. The LEO who reopened the investigation of 30-year old ritual sexual abuse allegations is being challenged for his position by someone who was investigated in connection with those allegations. The stories of ritualized sexual abuse were not confirmed at the time of the original investigation.
If I understand the timeline here, the husband was not arrested as part of this investigation. He was persuaded to turn himself in by one of his victims. The single count against the wife doesn't describe what I would call "ritualized" sex abuse.
To be clear: Reporting sexual abuse, including abuse from decades ago = good and should be encouraged. investigating reports of sexual abuse is good as long as the problems with past investigations are avoided. I'm skeptical about reopening 30-year old allegations of organized rings of Satanic ritual abuse that were investigated with no evidence being found.

If the Reformed Egyptian attire and priesthood ordinances were missing, what makes it ritualistic let alone Satanic?
When I saw the phrase “ritualistic sex abuse,” I was immediately skeptical. When it was explained that her husband was a psychologist who used the concept to engage in grotesque sexual manipulations, suddenly it became much more credible in my mind.
