Joseph Smith and Borders.

I would look at a map and notice how close the places Joseph Smith set camp or built a city was always close to a border. He grabs a horse and is gone when out of state Marshall’s show up to arrest him.
Nauvoo was very close to Missouri and Iowa.
When he was arrested in Nauvoo from Marshall’s from Missouri he demanded Writ of Habeas Corpus from a judge in Nauvoo. I’m pretty sure he was the judge in Nauvoo.
When the Marshall’s did take him they were followed by a hundred Mormons on horseback with rifles. If I remember correctly he demanded a court hearing in each town they stepped at; and after one court hearing he was finally released. He and the hundred men rode back and they had a celebration in Nauvoo.
