For the last five years I've had an interest in Judaism. Specially Orthodox Judaism. John D. had a three part series on an Orthodox Jew that left the fold. For me it was fascinating.

I am very surprised when I read about Israel and Orthodox Jews throughout the world.

Take for example B&H photo in New York run by Orthodox Jews.

Recently I made an order. I checked back via the web on Friday night. I received a message in front of the page saying that they were closed for Shabbat, and even the website is; I couldn't check my order which also means they don't sell on Shabbat. They will open later Saturday night at a certain time. I was very impressed by these folks. Not only the speed of delivery but saying this is our Sabbath Day and we are closed. Six days of business is good. Some how I think they might be doing even better business.

The light rail in Israel will not run on Shabbat.

A petition was signed by Rexburg residents wanting the Walmart to close on Sunday. I think if they owned the store they might have a point but they shop there. The Walmart remains open on Sunday,

My mother’s stove had a Sabbath setting, I learned after trying to reset the clock a few years back. I never figured out if it was used if you were tempted to cook on the Sabbath, forgot what day it was, or, why you needed that setting.

I’d like to take a deeper dive into Judaism myself.

Be like Dr. Peterson and dress up as a resident of Anatevka and sing "Tradition".

I remember on a John D podcast with a daughter whose dad was in the quorum of the 70. Between Sunday morning general session and afternoon session they had an elaborate lunch which was catered to. In my minds eye I see men or women in a tux being called over to a table and asked for another piece of pie. I have heard they stopped the practice but they were doing it in the 70s. My friends and I were so hungry we ate the extra wonder bread that was left over as we prepared the sacrament.

Thanks for your thoughts msnobody. The times of Israel and j post are free online news paper. I’ve been reading for a year now and they are on the brink of civil war over judicial overhaul. The far-right what’s to be able to over-rule the the high court. The far-right wants to build on the West Bank but the Israeli high court keeps ruling for the poor Palestinian who grows figs and dates.
