It turns out that there is (or was) a 2M+ subs YouTube channel called "8 Passengers" about a Mormon family raising their 6 kids utilizing the teachings of the Church. The mom also co-hosted a parenting advice channel called "ConneXions" that gave harsh, faithful family advice to parents.

which has been called a "cult" by some online. Many found the parenting style promoted by the pair to be extreme and harsh. The frequent inclusion of what has been called homophobic, racist and transphobic comments did not help their popularity.

It's interesting that concerned family and viewers made their case with CPS, and there is no mention of any efforts to bring concerns up with the Church or local leaders. Of course, what could they be expected to do? It's not like any of the adults charged had aired any material that questioned the Brethren. I'm sure they paid their tithing.

Similar things happened in the Enoch murder/suicide case. If I remember right the murdered wife was talking to the Bishop first and trying to navigate those connections which in the end doomed her and her entire family. The pressure machines these Mormon communities manufacture is real and sometimes deadly. The pressure to appear righteous and devout. The pressure to maintain gospel prosperity. Mental illness aside these kinds of pressures lead some people to take drastic steps. In his suicide note he insinuated that the Mormon afterlife would be far better than this one.

Many lay Mormon church leaders are not equipped to handle anything beyond basic administrative functions. They’re taught that they just need to pray for guidance for issues beyond their abilities, which is about as useful as consulting a magic 8 ball.

The results are predictably poor.
