Or maybe it's because they're realizing that every religion on earth is either man-made, a big business masquerading as a church, full of BS, created for money, sex and power and they all want your money to some degree. The LDS 'church' is all 5!

Certainly it must be due to the one and only true factor: those who dechurch do so in order to sin. Ref. DCP and his mopologetic co-horts.

A better definition for the Church (from a Christian perspective) is just all the believers in Christ. You don’t need authority. You don’t need a fancy temple. Those are worldly things.

I think it’s a healthy thing for Christians to abandon those who create their own church for power and financial gain.

The sad part is most people throw out everything when they leave their church.

Some churches have long lists of things that you are supposed to believe and do, and also seem to work hard to tie all those things tightly together into one package. They tell you that it's somehow really wrong or stupid to think that you could keep any of those things without keeping all of them.

The reason to do that is obvious. Everyone who has a mixed bag of things wants to sell you the whole bag as a bundle, so that you'll come for the bargain but pick up a bunch of overpriced crap along with it.

The rule that you have to keep all of their things, or else you cannot have any of them, is itself just another one of their things. So all you have to do is discard it first of all. Then you can decide as you will what to keep, if you want.

They think the numbers are bad now wait 20 years for all these Boomer matriarchs and patriarchs that are holding extended families of church goers together die and their kids and grand kids peace out on religion.

The church will survive by reviving a lame prophecy of great wickedness is to be had before Jesus comes, and no one going to church is more vile than masturbating.....er well, at least more vile than not paying tithing....

My guess is the reasons for leaving a regular Church and the LDS Church are different because of the differing church claims.

People are too busy entertaining themselves with electronic toys to go to church.

I am inclined to think that some belief and some unbelief resides in most people. People may deflect from speaking of their unbelief in order not to betray the other side. Or people really may feel enough uncertainty about it that they will speak of other things as reasons not to go to church. The article points out a group of common reasons people may mention. I am sure all those common reasons have influence

I felt a bit puzzled by how many reasons mentioned had percentages near 14 percent.What about the other 86 percent? Was this counting only one reason that people pulled out of a hat?

At least from the article I got the impression that the message and substance of the book amounted to observing that perhaps more people will go to church or perhaps fewer people will go to church.
