Notice how he said that there will be pockets that shrink and pockets that grow. Why did he need to say that? Are people getting nervous? Mormonism already is statistically insignificant compared to worldwide population. Getting smaller than that must need some apologetic response. Reminds me of the the quote, " we don't need good answers just answers".

He also recently said that the 'church' is not a corporation even though I'm sure he knows the legal name of the 'church' is the 'Corporation of the President'.  :x These guys have no trouble lying to keep the charade going, especially when they are all benefiting so much financially from a multi hundred billion dollar real estate corporation.

Yep. It's the money they look at to determine growth or not, no longer people. People continue to become irrelevant to it all.

Which, if that's the case, why continue to send missionaries out into the world to try and convert people to a con-man's made-up religion??? If 'church' historians know Smith was a charlatan and the FP from 2014 knows he was a charlatan (hence the birth of the essays, which remain largely unknown to the general membership), how can these men atop this garganrtuan corporation not know??? Unless they know but are afraid of what the truth would do to them financially? I've seen a video where Russell Nelson and a female interviewer are having a little discussion on how Smith 'translated' (err, fictitiously orally dictated) the B of M where Nelson purports to show the head in a hat method used but pulls back before putting his head into it almost certainly out of embarrassment and silliness. If these guys know it's all a big sham, yet, still have no problem sending out young people for 1.5 to 2 years wasting their life at their own expense as they sit on hundreds of billions, then that is unrighteousness on a scale that is unfathomable as far as I'm concerned! :x

Deceived, It seems to me more likely that the leadership and church historians think Joseph was a true prophet and the Book of Mormon real history revealed by the power of God.

I do not think so but there are a bunch of people who do. I very much doubt the leadership has any better information so they hold to belief.

Why would you think the essays indicate official unspoken disbelief?

[obviously I do not actually know for sure one way or the other what the leadership thinks in their heart.]

Thing is, at this point in time, even if they still think or believe that, it's gotta be plausible deniability. Why? Just look at the membership #'s... 16 million of which only 8 million are active. That is .0001% of the entire population of the planet, in other words, in the last 203 years since 'restoring' his 'one true church', the best God has done is 1 in 10,000 on planet earth converted to his 'one and only church'??? That is big time inefficieny, to say the least. Meanwhile, there are 1.5 billion catholics which comprises 21% of earth's population. But they're all members of the wrong religion??? I guess God really is working in mysterious ways. And how do these men, who are former doctors, lawyers, engineers, etc. who are supposed to be quite bright, actually believe that Smith created divine scripture by looking at a rock (that he used to scam people during his money-digging years) in a hat and telling a story with no gold plates used in the process??? I'll tell you... they want to believe... they need to believe... to maintain their celebrity status and all the financial perks that come with being a GA, not to mention their wives, kids, grandkids, great grandkids, etc. all benefiting financially for decades to come! :x

My own opinion is that conversion of the missionaries themselves is an important part of the equation.
