The Sex, the Violence, the Hideous Crimes in the Holy Bible: Lot’s Story

Post by markc »

My new article. Viewer Discretion Advised; this is about Lot and his two daughters, we all know what happens. I talk about my analyses and opinions of the story; the article actually is mainly for readers who aren't familiar with the Bible, but I post it here cause experts surely are welcome to comment.

Hugh Nibley claimed he bumped into Adolf Hitler, Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill, Gertrude Stein, and the Grand Duke Vladimir Romanoff. Dishonesty is baked into Mormonism.

A Holy Book for today's modern schools:

The Old Testament tells of sex, drugs, rock and roll, violence, incest, murder, and spilling seed.

Gather around kiddies and hear the stories!

They can take the Old Testament and shove it where the sun don't shine.

To call the Lot story porn seems quite odd. Porn is designed to be attractive, invite people to imaginatively participate. I think the Lot story was clearly written to be repulsive.

There are storytelling devices which work to make a simple plot presentation which, if analyzed as literal, appear unreal such as the whole town at the door.

Starting the article, I notice you propose that the fall made Adam and Eve smarter. I do not think there is any reason to imagine it that way. I think it made them dumber by infecting them with a pretend knowledge (evil).

I'm going to agree with you on that. I don't see (no pun intended) how the word "porn" properly fits into the definition of the intent and purpose of the story.

Chu needs to pick another word, please.

One person’s disgust is another person’s delight… can anyone definitively know what the writers intended?

You guys surely have your point. Though porn is not necessarily designed to be attractive; that's not exactly the point--it's designed for NOVELTY. For example, sadism and masochism aren't attractive to quite a few people.

The reason I call it porn simply is because of the incest and the "reasoning" for the deed. It seems to be designed for people with incest fetish. See: Two daughters say to each other, "Oh no, there are no suitable men for us but our father, we better have sex with him." Don't you see SNL's skits like "porn doctor" or the like? (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8TR34v ... yNightLive) In other words, people find silly excuses to have sex? That makes you laugh a little?

Just my 2 cents though, you surely are more than welcome to disagree.

EXACTLY. That's the point of sex. Again, I feel that Lot's story is for someone with an incest fetish.
