Interesting podcast yesterday regarding a secret group called the Cavalry that's composed of, among others, Tarik LaCour, Stephen Smoot and Robert Boylan. The Cavalry has a private Facebook group with over 14k verified missionaries who must promise to not disclose to anyone, members and non-members (which would include Mission Presidents) that they are a member of the Cavalry. It also doesn't appear to have Church sanction or approval.

Missionaries in the Cavalry group are encouraged to ask questions to, or even invite Cavalry members, Stephen Smoot or Robert Boylan (among others) to join their missionary discussions via ZOOM, despite Stephen and Robert not being set apart as a missionaries.

It's a strange dive into a bizarre rabbit hole. With over 14k missionary Cavalry members, I wonder how many missionary discussions via ZOOM are Stephen and Robert participating in on a daily basis? Is it any wonder the Church is struggling?

I see that group's rule 1 Ask Questions! then reads:

These folks combined have a vast breadth of knowledge and training, both formal and informal. Also be sure to attend our weekly zoom discussions and take lots of notes!

Had to look closely to make sure this was not related to the word Calvary used in the Bible.

I suppose they wanted a secret combination word that would be reminicent of General George Custer, or perhaps the Knights Templar. Cavalry riders mounted on tapirs and being rode into glorious battles.

Put some trusty tapirs under those strippling warrior missionaries being fused together through questionable apologetic training. With such leadership they can attack that wagon train approaching Mountain Meadows and walk away feeling extra righteous.

Wow...This is stunning. Quite disturbing. Of course, we've known all along that the Mopologists use secret means to plot out what they're doing--E.g., via the old L-Skinny list which they used to coordinate gang attacks on critics. And there is a reason why the Interpreter Foundation does not publish minutes of its meetings.

But you really have to wonder what this "Cavalry" group is up to. Is this project Brethren-sanctioned? Perhaps the most revealing aspect of it is the secrecy. They are basically saying that their defenses of the Church cannot withstand criticism, hence the need to keep everything secret. Nice to see that the up-and-coming generation of Mopologists is able to admit this obvious fact.

Watchin’ the ol’ flanks, are we? Just to be clear, the cavalry is used as a mobile military force for reconnaissance, rapid offensive maneuvers, flanking, and charges to break enemy lines. That is how they chose to describe themselves, but this is how they’re perceived:

Both RFM and Landon felt very concerned that the young missionaries were being used as fodder in this apologetics experiment and that the Mission Presidents would not take kindly to going behind their backs and creating ill will with investigators. They would not want those contacted walking away and cursing their online experience via these apologists.

The drive is, as expected, mostly the ramblings and rantings of the egomaniacs who run the group.

So the Church is allowing Russian bots to go on missions now?
