One of the most exciting books to come out in recent years on Early Mormonism and its founding sacred text, the Book of Mormon. Don Bradley recovers stories belonging to the text's first, partial, and very much lost manuscript. What he illuminates through his research is pretty mind-blowing. See what I have to say about why you should read this book.
I made a little video on Don Bradley's 2019 book, which I highly recommend. His research on this topic solves a lot of cool mysteries and shows why the South Park rendering of the event, though hilarious (in my opinion), does not work.

I called Don and ratted you out saying you were reviewing his book. He said he would get over to watch it. He better. I also told him to do a show with you. Invite him, that would rock. Do one with him tomorrow even!

Why would Martin Harris need to be putting money into the project if they are only sitting in a room talking and writing at that point?

Thanks, Philo! I have been a little bit shy to toot my own horn on this one, mostly because I decided to throw caution to the wind and learn as I go along, instead of continuing to wait for the perfect level of knowledge and perfect timing to magically appear.

I will definitely invite you, Don, and others on the show! I would very honored to have you guys on to add some luster to my humble channel.

I guess he was a patron to a talented man who lacked the money to get his project off the ground. Martin believed in what Joseph was doing, and he put his money where his mouth was. I am sure Joseph needed financial support in general as a poor fellow.

Does that mean he knew he was going to create a church before he finished the Book of Mormon?

One of the things I find odd and always have is that the church teaches 1st Nephi basically covers what I understood to be Lehi because they knew the pages would be lost. This I find to be quite absurd and have always felt was just a strange thing to do. Nephi wouldn't copy the same plates he has been carrying around and I am pretty sure he would have been too busy travelling in the wilderness to feel the need to duplicate.

Joseph seems to me to be the kind of person who wanted to be in a club in which he was in charge. He was not so good sticking to other people's rules. I think some kind of organization was always the plan, since he really did like to have people around him who would admire him and follow him. The treasure digging is a good example. Whether the project was going to be para-Masonic, a business venture, or a church evolved over time.
