Brigham Young’s businesses

Post by drumdude »

Over at SeN, a commenter has posted a list of businesses that Brigham Young owned. Many of them funded with zero interest loans from church tithing money. The proprietor seems a bit blindsided by this, and demanded to know where the list originated. The commenter replied it was from Quinn’s book, which apparently DCP has not taken the time to read.

It's this kind of Brigham hatred that makes Six Days in August a vital necessity for believing Saints. See!

You should check out Radio Free Mormon's episode on apostle Bruce R. McConkie's participation in a fraudulent funerary business. Wow! I had absolutely no idea.

Quinn puts Brigham Young’s individual wealth at the time of his death at around 32 million dollars. He was without doubt, one of the wealthiest men in the world.

Brother Brigham owned vast tracks of land, enormous cattle ranches, farms, mines, hotels, mills, etc. Brother Brigham lived like a king with his mansions, servants, and the finest delicacies his enormous wealth and power could afford. Kind of reminds me of the Mormon version of Kim Jong Un.

I hope Six Days in August shows how wealthy and powerful Brigham became. Just like Jesus taught.

The proprietor would like to remind you there’s nothing illegal about becoming rich and powerful off the back of church tithing.

Meanwhile, his wives that weren't his current favorite(s), and his children from those wives, were often left to live in near destitution on meager "allowances."

Looks like a special form of Mormon socialism, government ownership and control of the major means of production. So when did Mormons decide socialism was bad? Oh I guess when the government was no longer the church.

So what became of all that ownership? Has a somewhat distributed and covert socialism remained?

We all know that socialism was the early church plan which did not get off the ground very well and went through Orderville-type experiments ending up with the John Birch Society.

Warm Springs Bath House
I fondly remember all the times I went swimming at Wasatch Springs as a child. I hope Dr. Peterson does not feel compelled to deny its existence as part of apologetics.
