RFM just demonstrated that Oaks is encouraging far more brotherly love to all sinners by kicking their sorry butts outta church. Oaks will be the downfall of the church, you heard that here first..... what a power hungry guy.

If Oaks had the balls he'd withdraw membership from every inactive member for apostasy. Honor the Sabbath and Keep It Holy right? Send out the letters and give the members ninety days to respond. If they don't they're gone. Children over eight too. If they're old enough to be baptized they're old enough to run away from home each Sunday morning to get to church. Form letters. Bulk mail. No signatures. No return stamps.

Once he gets to be prophet I wouldn't be surprised at all if this happens......

The purge is coming.

Negative member growth will be a sign that President Oaks has ushered in the last great sifting. “How grateful we are for a living prophet,” they will say.

Hey RFM,

Around 9:00, Oaks said, “...when membership councils are held, the proportion of membership restrictions--especially withdrawal of membership--has also declined significantly.”

His point is that fewer councils are summoned (e.g. the total went from 20,000 per year to 10,000 per year), and that when councils are held, they are being more merciful (e.g. before 50% of councils result in excommunication, but now only 25% result in excommunication). Those two effects exacerbate the problem (e.g. the total number of excommunications per year went from 10,000 per year (20,000 x 50%) to a paltry 2,500 per year (10,000 x 25%)).

One would think if the priesthood were real and God was inspiring the local leaders to make the right decisions in this superlatively consequential priesthood function, Oaks wouldn’t second-guess what the local leaders are doing.

I was waiting for him to say that if someone wasn’t forgiven because the stake president chose not to excommunicate him, the sin of the unexcommunicated sinner would be upon the head of the stake president.

Was he really just saying the more members are excommunicated the fewer members are left to excommunicate?

If Oaks can get the membership down to half the number currently, it will be an accomplishment no other Church president has achieved. Remember, the lower the membership number, the greater the percentage of members that can be stored in stasis for the epic voyage to Kolob on the SpaceTemple Nauvoo with its giant spire and Angel Moroni. Remember the Angel Moroni will be weightless in Space and will not attract lightning.

Plus the Angel will let war-like space travelers know that this pilgrimage to the God most High on the Kolobian Ringworld is not to be messed with!!! Hopefully, the plasma cannons and the Tabernacle Choir sonic disruptors will never have to be used. The final piece of defense has been to enclose the entire hull in the garments of the Holy Priesthood.

The combination of BYU engineers and accountants can produce many marvelous works and wonders.

I don’t think so. I think they are looking at excommunications being down the same way a business would look at profit being down. For example, Walgreens looks at profit using the following formula:

Profit = (number of customers through door) x (profit per customer)

If profits are down, it’s either because fewer people are walking into the store, or the people who are walking in the door are purchasing less stuff, or both.

Likewise, Oaks is looking at excommunications this way:

Total Excommunications = [Number of Councils] x [Probability Council Results in an Excommunication]

He’s saying that total excommunications are down because there are fewer councils and the councils that are convened don’t end in excommunications as frequently as they used to. Therefore, to get total excommunications up to where they need to be, stake presidents should do both of the following:
  1. Convene more councils
  2. Push harder to resolve each council with an excommunication
I think that is his point.
