I Bought My Tickets To Six Days In August: Movie Review Will Post On The 27th

Post by Everybody Wang Chung »

I would encourage everyone here to help out the Afore and purchase tickets to the early screening of Six Days In August.

So far, tickets sales have been underwhelming with only 15 tickets sold, and I am responsible for buying 2 of those. I'm sure more people will purchase tickets the closer we get to September 26th, but I can't help thinking that the lack of advertising could be a huge stumbling block in trying to recoup the 2 million dollars this film cost.

I will post a review of the movie on the 27th. Here is breakdown of the tickets sold so far:

Provo 6 tickets sold:

Sandy 2 tickets sold

Very exciting, Stake President Wang Chung! I will definitely be looking forward to your review. And yikes--those numbers aren't good. Not a single ticket sold in SLC? That has got to be the biggest market that this movie is going to get. This doesn't not augur well for the film at all--especially if, as many are anticipating, President Nelson asks for a media fast.

Gosh those numbers are sad, but altogether predictable.

A movie about Joseph made sense. But Brigham isn’t that interesting. What’s next, a movie about Wilford Woodruff and Lorenzo Snow? Dan is straining the credulity of even the most faithful Mormon moviegoer.

President Wang Chung, I note that a link to the Provo screening is missing.

I would really go for an Interpreter movie about Henry D. Moyle. Aggressive church building, deficit spending, the end of public church finance reports, the purchase of a cattle ranch in Florida, and the baseball baptism program—these would make for a riveting and inspirational dramatic feature.

Thank you Tom. I've edited my post to reflect the 6 tickets sold in Provo.

I think a film about Henry D. Moyle would be awesome! I can imagine the Afore would pattern it after the film The Wolf of Wall Street. I can picture a Henry D. Moyle pounding his fists on his desk, screaming "spend!, spend!" before collapsing on the floor of his office due to sheer exhaustion and an overdose of Diet Coke.

Baseball baptisms would also be a great subject for the Afore's next project. He could call it Angels in the Outfield or Field of Screams.

Another film project the Afore should consider would be the passionate gay romance between Joseph F. Smith, former patriarch of the Church and John Reese when they lived in the Honolulu Stake. It could be the Mormon version of Brokeback Mountain. What could be more beautiful than a film about a passionate and tender Mormon romance set in the tropical paradise of Hawaii with crystal clear blue water, palm trees, white sand beaches and lush tropical landscapes? I smell an Oscar for the Afore.

Perfect time to do what Darren Scott did with the Oath. https://youtu.be/SZjllE7Wpps?si=tPl2oGONYCXEkMI1 Dan could do a YouTube video encouraging the church to urge members to go see it. He could ask the church to encourage members to buy up entire theaters like they did with Meet the Mormons. What does he have to lose?

That's an interesting suggestion, Tom. I noticed that the Interpreter President has been caterwauling rather incessantly lately about the new Hulu series--Swinging Mormon Wives or whatever it's called. He was even whining about the portrayal of Latter-day Saints in the award-winning play, Angels in America. If contemporary portrayals of modern LDS bother him so much, then you wonder why his two films have both focused on long-dead historical figures. If he sees contemporary representation as an issue, then why not address it?

Interestingly enough, Scott is in Six Days, so he could star in the YouTube video himself.

I think he eventually pulled down his criticism of the church for not supporting him, nevertheless Dan has a golden opportunity. Edit...I had no idea he was Hyrum.

The Executive Producer just put up a post about the early showings. He writes:
If you’re located along the Wasatch Front, don’t miss the opportunity of seeing Six Days in August this coming Thursday night. There will be special early screenings in American Fork, Draper, Farmington, Jordan Landing, Ogden, Orem, Salt Lake City, and Sandy: Six Days in August – Early Access. Quite frankly, we’re offering these advance screenings in the hope of generating word-of-mouth publicity, buzz, for the film. This is an independent and non-profit movie venture. It has been funded entirely by donations, and our budget for advertising and distribution is modest. So we’re relying on you to help us.
I would be remiss if I didn’t point out that the Executive Producer’s list omits Provo. I must confess that it’s rather curious that the Executive Producer has now posted an incomplete list of cities with early screenings on two occasions (see here).
