I've held back from saying anything because I didn't want to give them any ideas, but to be honest, I'm kind of surprised that the Mopologists haven't tried to do a movie about Porter Rockwell or Hosea Stout, or the Danites. It's pretty much the ideal subject matter for them, and in the past they've expressed admiration for Rockwell and the other Danites. And depicting Latter-day Saints as vindictive and violent thugs would be a nice change of pace from the usual whitewashed, "squeaky clean" image that's normally projected in LDS cinema. What's more, I bet Dr. Peterson could easily drum up another $2 million or so from even the most disappointed and reluctant donors--I mean, we are basically talking about the Mormon equivalent of Rambo. These old wealthy geezers would love the chance to see Rockwell slitting the throats of traitorous apostate bastards on the big screen. None of this wimpy "BY is an innocent babe in the woods" stuff. Audiences want to see the BY who orders up the execution of the Fancher Party, or the BY who demands castration as a punishment.

Dr. P.: you're welcome for the idea. Consider it an early Christmas present!
It's a fantastic suggestion. Negative heroes have dominated for over twenty years now and Dan has failed to embrace the trend. I remember Brigham as portrayed in Hell on Wheels was well accepted by my irreligious pro-Trump coworkers. It's an easy sell to the 30ish "theo bro" types walking around with long beards and talking about returning to Leviticus. Mormon history has everything these young Christian Nationalists want in a movement, they just don't know it yet. If Dan wants to turn heads toward Mormonism, this is his best shot.

Indeed. You think of characters like Walter White or Tony Soprano: deeply flawed, violent individuals who nonetheless managed to secure something resembling an “empire.” But they’ve emerged as two of the most compelling characters from the past 25 years or so. Meanwhile, it looks like the Executive Producer and his team are going to get schooled by the producers of American Primeval when it comes out. Or maybe you caught The Penguin, with Colin Farrell? If BY was a Batman villain, this is how he’d be, I imagine. Meanwhile, the Mopologist version of BY seems closer to Burgess Meredith’s effete, monocle-wearing Penguin from the campy 1960s Adam West Batman—a goofy weakling with a cigarette holder and a top hat. Farrell’s Penguin, meanwhile, is terrifying, relentless, and will stop at nothing to achieve his ends.

I remain baffled at just what the Mopologists were trying to accomplish with “6 Days.” It was a terrible idea for a movie—a lousy and uninteresting story devoid of drama and it apparently deals with BY at his most uninteresting. So, basically: lousy story and boring characters? Yeah, no wonder the thing tanked.

And on a side note: I saw that Scripture Central has apparently filmed its own version of Witnesses, since (evidently) the Interpreter version couldn’t hack it.

Lol! Louis Midgley is “very pleased”! SC has filmed a totally different version of basically *the exact same* footage that Interpreter used for “Witnesses”! Well, I guess we’ll see which version winds up being “definitive.” I will say that the SC Joseph Smith looks closer to what I understand the actual man looked like.

I note that SC are releasing it on You Tube so there is no barrier to people seeing it.

I wasn't aware of it. I checked in on MAX and caught the first episode last night, as well as the first episode of Dune Prophecy.

There are some strong parallels to Penguin, right down to Brigham's cane. A case could also be made for Dune Prophecy. I never saw GOT, but I assume this is what the creators are trying to pull off. It isn't very good, not nearly as good as Penguin (Penguin himself is almost too good for the rest of the show), but I'm guessing it is stronger than Six Days. It is possible to tell the Brigham story from the relief society perspective in the establishment of SLC, and the women as the power brokers behind the scenes with plenty of cable-tv bedroom manipulation. While I assume the Proprietor would fight against this aspect of the reimagining with the full might of his Victorian sword wielding, he could be lured by the prospect of making the Mormon people God's curators of the mysteries and magic is real. The only other religion contending for that role would be Catholic nuns, which I assume Herbert based them on, but the Relief Society is a much better fit.

At the bottom of the interpreter link is a link to more information at SC. When you click that link, this image shows up:

Is this what they mean by "This episode also features never-before-seen reenactments of those crucial events in Church history..."?

Are they never-before-seen because they never-actually-happened? Or is it just because no one at SC watched DCP's movie?

I haven't seen either, but is it possible they bought cuts from the movie?

No: it's a completely different actor playing Joseph Smith. SC is basically "wallpapering" over the Interpreter version.
