Patheos: Cheetos Are Against The Word Of Wisdom

Post by Everybody Wang Chung »

My second favorite Mormon Patheos channel (Ye Shall Prosper In The Land) just dropped another crazy article. This time it's about how the path to discipleship just might actually start by resisting the siren song of Cheetos.

In what is sure to incur the Afore's impotent rage, the author argues that Cheetos are engineered by “conspiring men” whose sole mission is to hijack your brain’s pleasure circuits and your free agency, all for profit. Forget about alcohol and tobacco, the real villain is the bag of Cheetos in the snack aisle at Walmart. The article claims these snacks fry your brain, fog your spiritual senses, and generally make you less patient, less focused, and possibly less able to tell your kids not to eat Cheetos.

Here are some excerpts from the article, Should Latter-day-Saints Eat Cheetos.
Why Cheetos Are Unworthy of a Latter-day Saint
Cheetos might not be brewed in a distillery or rolled into paper like a cigarette, but that’s not the point. When you examine what Cheetos are made of, why they were designed, and what they do to the body and mind, it becomes painfully clear that they fall squarely into the category warned about in the Word of Wisdom: a product born of “evils and designs… in the hearts of conspiring men.”

Let’s break that down:

1. Engineered to Be Addictive

2. Destroys Mental Clarity

3. Created by Conspiring Men for Profit, Not Nourishment

4. They Numb Us Spiritually Just Like Alcohol or Tobacco Can

While it might be worth sending a note to your Primary president to request that Cheetos and the list of other offenders (that’s a long list) be given to your kids, there may be other ways to more diplomatically keep your family and kids away from snacks that are unworthy of consumption.

The word of wisdom is certainly arbitrary enough to include Cheetos and other highly processed junk food!

It is really specific that he'd call out Cheetos like that. Does he have a secret problem with them? That's often the case when a Mormon goes on a crusade about their favorite commandments. Could there be other factors?

The real-life Montañez is a devout Christian, and his faith is woven throughout the film. Prayer is a central part of his life, sustaining him amid desperate circumstances and giving him courage in the face of obstacles. In one scene, he prays in desperation for God to rescue him from his bleak circumstances.
Flamin' Hot Cheetos are today a billion-dollar brand, but that was never Montañez's goal. Rather, he wanted to save the struggling Frito-Lay company and the jobs of his peers: "He wasn't even trying to be great. He was just trying to serve. So my hope is that people watch this film and they say, 'Wow, I can serve, too. I can do that," Franklin said.
"We all need help to do what it is we're called to do," Franklin said. "And there's no journey in this life that God has given us that we can only do by ourselves.
We can't take farmers and take all their people and send them back because they don't have maybe what they're supposed to have. They get rid of some of the people who have been there for 25 years and they work great and then you throw them out and they're replaced by criminals.

Nah, come on.....you are just making this up to make Mormonism look as humanly stupid as possible......right?...............Come on, fess up....... He probably works for Frito Lay, so he is trying to destroy the competition because all snacks are down in sales since you know who put out tariffs on Penguins as well as tapirs.....

Could an additional baptism rid us of these "flaming hot" spices?
