So, when was the last "revelation" or even just policy change by the Mormon church? Is Nelson too old and feeble that his divine radio receiver is not working and Big E and J can't get their messages through?

Does Oaks get something by the other 13 once in a while, with the O agenda otherwise having to wait its full implementation until Nelson passes?

It seems that they've finally got the message from their PR people that they need to just keep their heads down and not make any waves. The members will keep paying, there's really nothing they need to do except get out of their own way.

Given the egos of the 15, do you think that is doable? Granted, Holland hasn't given an interview in a long time, not even "I'm not a Dodo bird" interview, and Ballard has passed. This leaves Oaks and Bednar as the remaining chief toe-stubbers left.

I don’t think the activity has changed, I believe it’s just been relabelled. Now we get letters, proclamations, press statements, policy changes, new procedures etc. They’ve grown wary of specifically labelling anything as a “prophecy” or a “revelation” because there’s a multitude of examples where things that were given those labels have subsequently had to be changed or have been shown to be incorrect. They can change a policy without the drama that changing a revelation would bring.

Oaks himself added to the PR safety net when he proclaimed that some commandments were permanent and some were temporary, but declined to explain how you can tell the difference except retrospectively when he and his colleagues decide it is so.

In their minds it's very simple. Just follow whatever they're currently saying. Anyone who looks back at what they said before and finding inconsistencies is being deceived by Satan.

I think you are essentially right. There is an element of "autopilot" in the church. The restoration is ongoing but the doctrines are now in place. I think that it would be a surprise if some new doctrine was revealed. Of course, that is a possibility, who knows? What we can be pretty sure of, however, is that there will be changes in policies and procedures that will adapt to changing circumstances.

My thinking is that this is often done through common consent. Sometimes through seeking the will of God and at other times as a result of the power that is in them...as the D&C says.

Have no fear, the doctrinal underpinnings are in place, the authority has been restored, and the path of discipleship is now available to all that will come unto Christ.

Excellent point. Even if membership may be declining here, it is increasing on the other side of the veil.

I believe the Q15 has become more and more gun-shy about claiming revelations, and for good reason. The last big revelation didn’t go so well. In 2015, Nelson doubled down on the policy of exclusion by upgrading it to the “will of the Lord” revelation. Four years later, in a damage control effort, Nelson embarrassingly walked back the revelation, throwing god under the bus in the process. The end result was a PR disaster, and hopefully a valuable life lesson.

When they backtracked the revelation that children of married gay people can't be baptized until they're out of the house.
