“I’m gonna live so God can use me”

Who the heck decided this was a good addition?? It’s laughably bad.
Looking at the bottom, it seems to be some sort of pandering to an African American inclusivity. I wonder how those who sang this would feel about a bunch of white people in a church with such a racist history singing this.

That's a song with a good message for everyone. Singing "Amazing Grace" at church recently I thought, "Wow, holy envy nipped in the bud this time around."
I'm happy that as Christians we are becoming more Christian.

And I mean that in an all inclusive good way. It's been a long time coming.
We can still have unique doctrines and beliefs while being more cognizant of the fact that in many instances there is more that brings us together than what separates us.
Regards,
MG

Could the church possibly have made the hymn title sound less porny? Seriously, reading the lyrics, it sounds like the writer had a hard-on for the almighty.
I'm sure that MG feels that there is nothing wrong with belting out insane lyrics like "Jesus, your cup runneth over, spill your love on me" or something else equally ridiculous. Its just weird.

I’m gonna Pay so that The Church can use me.
I’m gonna Pray so that The Church can use me.
I’m gonna Obey so that The Church can use me.
It’s not a cult. Apparently.

Here's kind of a cool version:

Someday maybe we'll get the drums and the guitar!
In the meantime, I'd like to see someone play the piano like that at church.

I can imagine Brigham Young spinning in his grave. Not only do the cursed sons of Cain get the priesthood, but their songs are sung in his church!
To quote brother Brigham: “we just as well give mules the right to sing as Negroes and Indians.”

Brigham was a man of his time. As are we. If you lived back then would you have been racist?
C'mon, you have to admit that this African spiritual does have some rhythm and a good message. Are you jealous that you don't get to sing it at church?
This one has a better sense of rhythm and musicality than a few of the songs that we've sung out of the new hymn book so far.

MG

Brigham was a man of his time.
Well no. Brigham was supposed to be a Prophet, Seer, and Revelator. Surely he could supernaturally see the future where blacks and whites were equal? The hallmark of a Prophet is specifically that they are NOT men of their time.

God forgot to tell him that black people were, well, people.
There must have been so many other much more important things for Mormon God to impart to Brigham first. Like the Adam God theory.

MG,
Jesus lived over 2,000 years ago. Was Jesus racist? Was Jesus a man of his time? Would the Lord's mouthpiece, representative on earth and prophet be racist?
