The mission president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Mexico City West Mission is said to be in stable condition after he was shot in his home Saturday.

“President R. Tyler Wallis was shot once by an intruder during an attempted robbery in their home at approximately 2 a.m. local time,” Church spokesperson Sam Penrod said.

That's terrible. I hope he recovers quickly.

He has a brother in Henderson, NV who is a Facebook friend of mine. Heartbreaking and hoping he can make a full and speedy recovery, and the same for his family that were put through such a horrific traumatic event.

Don't mission presidents have any kind of security in some of these volatile countries? It seems like Nelson had some in the Mozambique situation.

My understanding is that in high crime/high poverty areas, the mission president's home is usually in a gated/guarded community, in a nice/wealthy neighborhood with low crime.

This is already being turned into a miracle story by some of his relatives. I also note that the Church spokesman has stated that “all other missionaries are safe”. Why wouldn’t they be after a burglary at the mission home where none of them live?

That should probably be “all other missionaries are "safe" ”. It's almost certain that some are living in unsafe conditions, although perhaps none is currently ill or injured.

I’m so pissed that someone would do this. The family is awesome. They’ve done nothing to deserve this. This is completely messed up. Why didn’t god protect them?

I’m in-real-life friends with both C*** and T***, the mission president’s actual siblings. They don’t have any siblings living in Henderson. Are you sure you have the right family?

Quite often there are missionaries that are staying in the mission home around transfer time and those going home. I know there seemed to always be a couple at the mission home at any given time in my mission.
