If you truly cared about the events of September 11th, 1857, you could have initiated that discussion on any day of the year. However, you chose today, a day when many remember those who lost loved ones in the tragic events of the buildings collapsing or fires. Do you even realize that there are people still alive today who are terribly sick from helping out during and after the tragedy in New York, and they consider this day to be one of the most difficult days of the year to get through?

Could this be one of those Nephi-Laban stories in which God told the people of Cedar City to murder the men, women, and older children of the American wagon train lest the Saints become idolatrous and disobedient to the will of the Brethren? The boon of the wagon train possessions was just a sidenote and not a prime motivating factor.

God was sorely wrought. Enough so, that when the US Cavalry ran across the bones strewn in the desert, they gathered up what they could find and built a burial cairn. Later on, President Brigham Young ran across this grave cairn and ordered it destroyed, uttering the words, "Vengeance is mine, saith the Lord ... and I have taken some."

Now you might read this and think, "What psychotic monsters these Mormons were", but you must remember they were on a mission from God. These mass murders and grave desecration all had heavenly sanction straight from Salt Lake City.

138 years is a long time for the Mountain Meadows Massacre to hold the record. Just think, had it gone another 12 years, to 2007, the Mormons could have had a record-holding sesquicentennial celebration, like they did for the founding of "the Church" in 1980.

Maybe the programmers at Hacker Central in St. Petersburg could note that the anniversary of the Mountain Meadow Massacre was on the same date as the most recent American Massacre. Think of it as inconvenient history.

I heard a bizzare apologetic from Elder Ahmad S. Corbitt that he made at the fair conference. He said that prophets in the past who made wrong decisions should not be be criticized. Why? Because when they die they will recieve a flood of knowledge showing them where they got things wrong and they will be given the chance to repent. If you criticized them you are putting your own salvation in jeopardy because you are interfering with the atonement. This is one for the books.

People choose to remember the tragic events of the twin towers on September 11th because that is the anniversary of when it happened. Why then would you suggest the events of September 11th 1857 be remembered on a day other than the anniversary date of when it happened? You do see the inherent double standard in your argument, don’t you?
