Russell M. Nelson: How To Alienate Members Without Even Trying

In my opinion, Russell M. Nelson was probably the most unpopular prophet of all time. He faced considerable controversy and unpopularity within the Mormon community. His vocal support of the COVID-19 vaccine was a major catalyst for division, deeply alienating a significant number of members. Additionally, he had to contend with persistent rumors alleging the cover-up of sexual abuse involving members of his family.

Russell M. Nelson's unpopularity is clearly apparent on platforms like LDSFreedomForum, where comments from rank-and-file Chapel Mormons offer candid appraisals of Russell M. Nelson's leadership. Below are a few the many scathing comments deriding Russell M. Nelson on the day of death:

In church today, everyone except me testified of Russell M. Nelson and the church.

I testified of Christ.

I have hope for Uchdorf and Bednar, but only because of what the Lord has shown me in dreams with them both as I've prayed earnestly about the condition of the church, Zion (all is not well in Zion), and the child like simplicity of the gospel restored being perverted by the false traditions of the fathers & for-profit, protect the brand, corporate policies, which has continued through the brethren to today.

Nelson's performance as church president left a lot to be desired, and I don't think history will be kind to him.

It would have been real hard to have guessed how far left Nelson would swing the LDS church.

I wish our skull and bones member the best of luck as he meets Jesus Christ for the first time.

IDK what he did for and in skull and bones, or the allegations about his daughter's child abuse scandal and cover up, possibly hiding SRA activity and sweeping child abuse cases under the rug, and other things using Kirton McConkie law firm as bludgeon, misuse of tithing, lying about Church History, etc.

So yeah I didn't know what to think of him exactly.

I'm not predicting it because I'm not a seer. But things seem to be lining up to fulfill Bishop Koyle's prediction about three church leaders passing away in close succession. I could see a scenario where Oaks only lasts a few weeks in office, is succeeded by Holland, who then passes too.

God will judge him. I do not wish damnation on him, but he made at least one very grave error that has affected the lives of very many church members.

I will not be mourning his death. I suppose I have a duty to at least feel compassion for those who will. And I will *absolutely* make my own judgments about Nelson’s life, as I don’t believe in the wisdom of the mantra “don’t judge,” which is not actually what Jesus said. But I do accept that I will be judged by the same standard against which I make my judgment. So, I will work hard to ensure that I don’t make myself a mouthpiece for Satan’s Gadianton Robbers, that I don’t urge millions of followers (who consider me a demigod) to participate in a medical experiment, and that I don’t remain silent while the enemy has torn down the gate and begins decimating millions of youth who are embracing the enemy’s ideology and ingesting his poison.

Nelson was a disaster. I don’t care how anyone tries to spin it, he has been worshipped as a demigod by the members. And I find it revolting. I believe in an eternal atonement and repentance, though. So, all the best to him on the other side.

The "Godsend" vaccine was his downfall unfortunately. I hope the next prophet can right the goodship Zion before it's too late. Perhaps Judgement day is upon us.

Now Oaks can do a complete reversal on everything Nelson did and throw Nelson under the bus line Nelson threw Monson under the bus.

It's already happening with the trans. brief to the Supreme Court. That one is a complete reversal for the LDS Church considering they allowed trans at FSY and still allow trans priority in bathrooms and under Nelson advocated for laws banning "conversation" therapy.

LDS get ready for whiplash!

If Nelson had been of average intelligence then the "Literal Godsend" could have been attributed to stupidity but Nelson was a person with very high IQ who claimed to be God's mouthpiece on earth. The "Godsend" remark was pure evil. I don't remember reading anywhere in scripture about the Lord uncovering the eyes of our seers and therefore I would not place too much hope in Nelson's successor turning things around.

Wow. I wonder how many of them have active temple recommends.

Unfortunately, the Strengthening Church Membership Committee is only interested in going after intellectuals, gays, and feminists.

"It would have been real hard to have guessed how far left Nelson would swing the LDS church."

emmmm - what?

Perhaps it's because I'm one of these radical leftist communistic fascist (yes, I know) lunatics that I didn't notice the "swing". Did anyone else? The only example I can think of is endorsement of the COVID-19 vaccine. But surely that was a blip, not a swing.

Freedom forum appear to me to be far right of all but a few chapel Mormons. I see disaffected folks off the far edge. Then I might not have a clear view of conservative Utah Mormons.

Perhaps my ignorance allows me to see that group as disaffected extremists.

So the MAGA and MAHA idiots did not like Nelson. I knew I liked something about him.

I’ve peeked in there a couple of times, and it’s hard for me to judge the percentage of LDS folks it represents. The things expressed there are 100% at odds with my experience with LDS members.

Well, Nelson appears to have been an actual physician, so he’d be at odds with plenty of MAHA folks.

"Radical left" for these right-wing loons means believing in sound medical science, apparently.

Additionally, just having an LGBTQ friend or roommate constitutes being "radicalized" by "the Left." Notably, the only "evidence" that has come to light to support lying Spencer Cox's repeated assertions all over television for five days following the Kirk shooting that the shooter had been "radicalized" and had adopted "leftwing" views was his arch-conservative, gun-fetishizing, 3%er parents' assertion that he had moved "left" in his politics. No evidence beyond the mere fact that he had a non-binary roommate has come out in support of this assertion. Of course, the overwhelming majority of Americans are "left" of Robinson's rural devout Mormon parents.

To folks like these, anyone who doesn't idolize Stephen Miller is a "radical leftist" just as anyone who vaccinates their kids is a "radical leftist." Also, anyone who drinks Bud Light or roots for the Kansas City Chiefs, etc.
