I think it’s quite clear to any honest TBMs that temple building and the demonization of the word “Mormon” clearly came from Russell Nelson the man, not the prophet. There’s a well known battle-of-the-egos that played out with the latter.

It was more than a little cringe inducing watching Mormons try to rationalize those obvious mistakes as divine revelations.

I have to give kudos to Oaks for walking it back so quickly. Though I suspect bringing back the word Mormon may take some more time.

Do you think that "Mormon" will make a comeback? Could it be sold to the membership, or would that reversal be just too much?

I'm old enough to remember vividly the "I'm a Mormon" campaign, which ran from 2010 to 2018. I would argue that the effort to demonize the word "Mormon" was a much harder sell to the members than restoring it would be.

You have people like John Pack Lambert looking like a complete buffoon pointing out every newspaper in the world which doesn't comply with the church's style guide. It's a Herculean effort to constantly correct everyone, and one which buys the church zero good will on the best of days, and negative on the worst.

I think the reversal will happen naturally as the church just lets the issue go.

The timing is exquisitely delicious. Not even a week after Rusty's passing, the Lord apparently decided that the temple expansion needs to slow down. Call me cynical, but the immediate shift in God's priorities seems to suggest one of two things: either Jesus has a surprisingly short attention span, or Rusty was leading a massive, uninspired real estate boom.

During the Michigan attack I was listening to the police scanner as the shootings were happening. There were some real life repercussions happening as the operator was transferring information to the police that were on site and it involved TCOJCOLDS. She kept saying the entire name and it cluttered the airwaves causing delays in the information getting out.
