Significant change to D&C 132 Introduction.

Post by I Have Questions »

Amongst a raft of changes, this one stood out
Section 132 —Changed “as early as 1831” to “earlier.” (This change indicates that there is some ambiguity about exactly when the principles in this revelation were revealed to the Prophet.)
There’s only ambiguity because Joseph’s philandering doesn’t tie neatly into when he produced D&C 132. This change acknowledges that the Church had no support for claiming plural marriage principles were in play from 1831.
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

They start with the assumption the church is true, and work backwards to retroactively justify it.

The Church creates the ambiguity they need to avoid the obvious conclusion to the available evidence - that Smith was a serial cheater. I’d still like to see the specific evidence that they’ve used to conclude that Smith had been “taught” the principles of plural marriage by God prior to his claim within D&C 132.
