“The individual,” he said, “who gave me a ride home from church this past Sunday was sort of scratching his head and saying, ‘Why hasn’t the leadership in Salt Lake said something about this?”

Top leaders at church headquarters have not spoken out directly on the clashes in Minnesota.

Dave Sandberg, who lives and attends church in a suburb just west of the city, noted that Latter-day Saint higher-ups haven’t been totally silent.
This is a moral issue, not a political one, so they have no excuse for failing to step up, failing to stand for something, failing to lead. Silence on the matter is tantamount to support for it.

Thanks for the link, IHQ. Worth reading.

It's good to see that members are taking some initiative to do something, while the Area Seventy calls for an "interfaith fast".

That was my thought. In contrast to the Catholic Church, which speak out on the moral implication of significant events, the church’s leadership rarely speaks out on events that do not directly and specifically affect the church. See Gay marriage.
