What I did with the $$ I saved not paying tithing

For me, I bought two tix to the Super Bowl in San Francisco on Sunday.

What did you do with your money saved from the clutches of the tithe collectors?

Buying formula for my children rather than gamble on the spooky mysterious province of Mormon God.

It’s worked out well for me so far, despite being told I should fear missing out on nebulous blessings (which may not come until after I’m dead).

I hope you don't have a grown-up child complaining at some point that you should have let them starve so that you could pay your tithing.

LOL

Seriously, though- Last time I paid was around 10 years ago. Inflation and the economy is 100 times worse now, in my opinion. I can’t imagine how much harder it is for families to sacrifice such a gigantic portion of their income on top of rising costs of living.

I really really hope some Mormon families are just refusing to do it.

If you'd like to opt in, simply scan the QR code ... Those who participate will receive spiritual blessings ...
This reminds me of something someone said once. Oh, yeah:
Johannes Tetzel wrote:Sobald das Geld im Kasten klingt, die Seele in den Himmel springt!
As soon as the coin in the coffer rings, the soul from Purgatory springs!
Martin Luther wrote a response to this, and tacked it up on a door.

Didn’t the Church recently (last couple of years) add a disclaimer to the donation slip to the effect that, no matter you donate towards, the Church reserves the right to use the money you’ve donated on whatever it sees fit?

That’s my memory of the change as well. It all goes back to the big Scrooge McDuck pile in Salt Lake.

In which case that letter makes a promise the senders cannot keep - that 100% will go to families in need. Are you sure that this isn’t a scam? (Separate to the general scam that the Church perpetrates around donations). Getting 12-17 year olds going round the neighbourhood door to door picking up cash, seems a little reckless in this day and age.

I don't know how reliable this is, but I was told during a Facebook discussion that, regardless of the disclaimer in the tithing slip, there is an absolute barrier against FO funds being sent to Ensign Peak. Of course, money being fungible may be seen to devalue any such separation of funds.
