Inhabiting a "no man's land"

From another topic:
In my own case, as I've mentioned here before, my stake pres. is aware that I'm beyond inactive, although he doesn't ask for any details when I email him to let him know that I raised my hand in opposition to the sustaining of the GAs. My belief is that he simply doesn't consider my state of disbelief to be of particular interest. A former member of the branch presidency here once asked me to take action in support of other branch members because (he said) he trusted me to do what was needed, but didn't feel that he could entrust the action to anyone else in the branch. Earlier he had called me a tool of Satan
so perhaps that says more about the other branch members than it does about me.
I feel as if I'm inhabiting a sort of no man's land where I'm good enough to be useful at times, but definitely not good enough for most purposes.
In some ways it's useful to be in this situation: my continued membership gives me some cred to talk about Mo stuff. I don't usually conceal my state. In particular I make sure to reveal it if I think it's relevant.
Other members of the board are in similar states. Anyone care to share what it means to you, and/or how it affects your thoughts, speech, and actions?
I've wondered more than a few times about what can legitimately be said about members who have neither resigned nor been ex’ed - nor been subject to any kind of disciplinary action.
