I had a hole-in-the-wall analogy once too!

The wall represents some kind of relationship with your chosen god, and all information/knowledge is available on the other side of the wall. There's a hole through which people can see stuff. From far away you can get only the tiniest glimpse of something through the hole but as you come closer to the wall/god you see more and more. When you put your eye up close to the hole, you get a really wide perspective that's not possible from far off. By adjusting your angle with respect to the wall and hole, you can choose a view that includes past, present, and future. God is on the other side, and has the entire vista from eternity to eternity open to him.
Interesting. If you think about this from an “eternal intelligence” view, what was the original distance from the hole? What stopped the intelligence from being right next to the hole from eternity past? And what about other Gods? Were there multiple holes the intelligences could have looked through but this one is the one they chose?

I mean, “we don’t know” is an answer, but there are some “holes” in this continuum.

I wish I had some coherent answers, but this was just an idea I came up with back in my believing days as a way of visualizing the gaining of further light and knowledge by being progressively more faithful and obedient.

That’s fair Malkie. I actually it’s probably not fair to expect you to provide an answer.

I like this thought as a challenge to the metaphysics: If we as eternal intelligences lacked something, what explains that lack in something that has no beginning and has presumably progressed since eternity past?
