Temple Announcements 2026 v 2025

Post by I Have Questions »

Nelson was a man on a mission to become the Prophet with the most temples announced under his tenure. Going so far as to bring announcements forward before a site had been secured, and even making announcements of temples in countries where permission for a temple hadn’t even been discussed (e.g. Russia). Oaks has been forced by the overloading of the building department by Nelson, which has resulted in a constipated pipeline. Oaks has been forced to slow things down.

April 2025 - 15 temple intentions announced by Nelson.
April 2026 - 0 temple intentions announced by Oaks.
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

Dallas Oaks has definitely hit the stop button on new temples. He probably realized that it’s better to be the prophet who finishes building some temples than the one who kept announcing new temples without checking to see if the local government would approve them.

Does anyone have an update on the Shanghai or Russian temples? I’m starting to suspect they’ve moved from the planning phase to the urban legend list.
