I’ve been impressed by a Mormon apologist recently standing up to the MAGA/Trump/Republican hysteria and misinformation about Islam. There’s a longstanding belief amongst many in the West that Islam is invading their culture and seeking to impose Sharia law. Some call Islam a death cult. Others are making memes saying Islam isn’t a religion at all.
Joseph Smith seems to have recognized the similarities between himself and Muhammad early on. I personally think he likely modeled himself after Muhammad but faithful Mormons can believe that God spread truth to all traditions for His own purposes.
In any case it makes Mormonism a unique bridge with this hostile divide between Christianity and Islam. A bridge that could foster friendship and understanding. I hope someday Americans become a little less bigoted and ignorant about Islam and perhaps Mormonism and this apologist in particular will have helped a little to advance that.

Many years ago I had some good friends who were Bahai. I Investigated that belief fairly extensively. They make a point of the idea of God sending leaders and inspiration to peoples about the world. Being an outgrowth from Islam it is a larger source than others. I could find myself appreciating positive aspects of Islam. I was also horrified by past treatment of Bahais by Islam, particularly in Iran. I cannot help but see a very mixed bag in Islam.
