Folks, you really couldn't script this level of absurdity. Over on a tiny blog full of the terminally gullible, DCP is at it again, crying into his keyboard because his Facebook friends were mean to him.

For a guy who claims he's just dropping objective historical facts for the thrill of the clickbait, DCP is spending an awful lot of time whining and shedding tears that people on his Facebook were mean to him. Watching him frantically block four friends and publicly announce a digital mass-eviction from his friends list, complete with tragic pauses for the deceased, all while crying about how hard it is to be a misunderstood intellectual is nothing short of narcissistic, toddler behavior that we've all come to expect from DCP. Instead of marching bravely into his comment section, like the stoic conservative intellectual he fancies himself, he’s basically throwing a public temper tantrum, deleting anyone who hurts his feelings, and crying out for a group hug from the First Presidency.

Folks, you really can't make this crap up.

This is a genuinely valuable contribution that he can make, he’s trained on it, he’s knowledgeable, he has an online following. This could be much more impactful than his Brigham Young videos.

Totally agree. It’s a shame DCP has skin so thin you can practically see his ego bruising in real time, making any kind of emotionally detached, scholarly dialogue virtually impossible.

I followed the link to Mr. Peterson's article and found a level headed statement with valuable observations. His comments about positive aspects of Islam are good reminders. It is too bad he receives such vitriol that he defriended a few but I can see his point. Unreasoning hostility can become pretty pointless.

Huck, nothing screams "level headedness" and fearless champion of truth quite like crying about the meanies, executing a dramatic public purge of your Facebook friends at the first sign of challenging questions, and then retreating to a small echo chamber to again, publicly whine and cry about it. Which specific comment from DCP's Facebook friend was actually too dangerous for your fragile free-speech sensibilities that you felt justified a total and complete banning?

Sounds like it was a good, solid, satisfying day's work for the Proprietor. He got to indulge in one of his favorite activities--engaging in provocation and then turning around and banning the people who were dumb enough to take the bait. Quite a large portion of what he posts is meant to do this, I'd argue. He doesn't really care about "being a force for good" or helping to combat toxic attitudes or anything like that--that's really just the polemical "cover story." The point is the provocation itself. The goal is to get people riled up so that he can attack them, ridicule them, make them seem unreasonable, ban them, etc. It has happened hundreds and hundreds of times, and he's been candid about how much pleasure it brings him: "This is bound to infuriate people!" he's declared at various junctures. I would venture to guess that even the plagiarism fits into the basic goal. It "stirs the pot" in certain quarters, and if you dare bring it up on his blog, he'll ban you. Wash, rinse, repeat. Over and over and over and over again.

Some good insights from everyone, different perspectives; that's what I like about this place. I think it's admirable that this professor stood up for another religious tradition. I am sympathetic to the criticism though that he didn't survive much pushback.

I recall in the Book of Mormon, Samuel the Lamanite stood and preached even as arrows wooshed by and barely missed him. Abinadi preached on amidst the flames of his captors.

The saints of the generation sure give up easy.
