Elder Renlund: Mask wearer, COVID catcher

(Sometime recently): Elder Dale G. Renlund records a video encouraging members to wear a mask.
Sat, 12/5/20: The church announces Elder Renlund has COVID-19.
Mon, 12/7/20: The video is released to the world.

Marketing professionals on the internet are asking why the LDS church would have someone who's contracted COVID-19 professing the effectiveness of masks to the world.

Renlund stated that wearing a face covering need not be politicized or contentious, and that a mask was a
sign of Christlike love during the pandemic. This has caused quite a stir among the Mormon alt-right. The bycommonconset site did a write up on Renlund remarks, and there is some comment posts that are seriously pushing back on this.

Renlund is an apostle, and he stated clearly that he was speaking as such. So, this puts wearing a mask at the same level as the two earring directive. Maybe Bednar needs to do one of his be quick to observe follow ups talks.

There’s a lot to consider here.
- the gross ineptitude behind the decision to allow this video to air knowing the guy in the video had just contracted Covid-19
- the irony that he probably contracted Covid-19 whilst shooting a video about wearing a mask
- why have a junior Apostle as a figurehead on this one? Are the more senior figures self isolating?

I used to think that diehard Mormons would always follow the leadership with one exception — any restrictions on guns in chapels or elsewhere. I now add masks to the list.

Benson wrote a book God, Family, Country. That was presumably his order of importance and loyalties. I think for many members, and especially some of the most devout members, it’s instead guns, masks, ..., God, family, country. (And I guess you can put Trump up there close to God, either just before or after.)

At least we won't have to listen to sappy testimonials about how God miraculously protected the apostles from contracting Covid-19. Those Saps won't be able to use that as one of their faith promoting examples to show that the Church has been divinely blessed and that miracles are manifested regularly.

Oh wait! It will be a miracle should Renlund recover.
