Thoughts of John Gee on the Book of Abraham

Post by hauslern »

Interesting interview with Gee and his experience at Yale. He does not mention Ritner.

Note how he argues for the Book of Abraham
"The first is that the fragments that we currently have must be the papyri from which Joseph Smith translated the Book of Abraham. A careful examination of the accounts left by nineteenth century eyewitnesses shows that cannot be the case.

The second is that the speculations of W. W. Phelps and Oliver Cowdery that were in Phelps’ possession are actually Joseph Smith’s and that they somehow give us some sort of key to understanding the translation process. The arguments put forward for this are usually circular and therefore logically fallacious.

The third is that one can assess the validity and authenticity of the Book of Abraham and understand its contents without reference to the ancient world of Abraham’s day. If all one studies and all one knows is nineteenth century history, then all one will be able to see is the nineteenth century; one will never be in a position to see anything ancient in the Book of Abraham.

So "missing scroll theory," the scribes did it" and ' he third is that "one can assess the validity and authenticity of the Book of Abraham and understand its contents with... reference to the ancient world of Abraham’s day"

John Gee is a tortured man living in denial and is paid by the Church to sponsor a program of deception and misinformation in order to defend the mistranslations of the Book of Abraham. The cult of Mormonism has stolen his soul.

It's very sad.

There was a report of a new find in Egypt with a description of a long Book of the Dead. I wonder how Gee will respond to that?

Apostate Egyptologist John Gee

Post by Shulem »

John Pitiful Gee has been taking quite a beating as of late. Here are some recent links to some threads on the old Mormon Discussions Board. It's a testament that he's the Apostate of Egyptology having made a mockery of ancient Egypt.

A shrine dedicated to Anubis — the god of the cemetery — was also found near the burial shafts, as were statues of the god.
What would the BYU archeological team do when confronted with such a finding? Would they feel compelled to report it or be tempted to hide it away in Vault F?

They might very well break out a chisel and hack off the snout and then claim they've found the tomb of Olimlah. That might be what it takes to get Philo to go back to church and start paying tithing again and donate to his favorite Mormon apologetic charity.

Back to church, Philo!

Does this find not support the eyewitness accounts of a Long Roll thus supporting Gee's claim that we are missing the part of the papyri that the Book of Abraham came from? (not that I buy into any of that apologist crap)
