Uchtdorf violates Church policy on political neutrality

"Family" implies a plurality -- one or more members. This means that one or more members of the "family" have access to the account and made political contributions. Who done it?

Dieter Uchtdorf said in a statement provided by church officials that the contributions came from an online family account associated with his name.

What EXACTLY is an "account" that is associated with his name? Who controls the account? Who controls the password and maintains personal user information? From what I can tell, the statement does not exclude Dieter himself of being one of the persons of the "family" that may have made a contribution(s).

I regret such an oversight on my part, I fully support the church’s policy related to political donations from church leaders.

Is this Dieter admitting that he was one of the members of the "family" that pressed the donation button? I think so!!

Church officials declined comment Friday beyond providing the statement from Uchtdorf.

This leads me to believe the Church has something to hide and they are playing their cards close to the vest. It appears to me that Dieter was one of the members of the family that knowingly disregarded official Church Policy and made contributions.

The crime in many LDS eyes is not breaking the rules, they can rationalize that away in a heartbeat. What they have a problem with is being untrue to Trump.

The Deseret News has consistently come out against Trump. The DN recently published a long opinion by BYU Law Prof Gedecks (sp) who is the Church's Supreme Court counsel.

The DN has only once before in its history taken a position about a presidential candidate.

Mrs. Uchtdorf was being true to the spirit of Deseret News.

Teach the sheep correct principles and they shall be fleeced by someone other than Trump!

Does the Church pay for the 'Dieter Uchtdorf' account that the family has access to?
I think where the funds came from to pay for those Democratic donations should be declared as it's in the memberships interest to know, especially as they have to make a decision on sustaining him or not in a few weeks time.

Transparency of General Authority remuneration and use of Church funds is long overdue.

That isn't him explicitly saying he personally didn't make the 13 payments.
That isn't him explicitly saying he didn't sign off on the 13 payments.
That isn't him explicitly saying he wasn't involved in the family decision to make those payments.
That isn't him explicitly saying he had no knowledge of the 13 payments until it was brought to his attention after the event.

Uchtdorf's statement is attempting to mislead without being an outright lie. But as pointed out earlier in the thread, there is a Church teaching that deliberately misleading someone, or only telling a partial truth, is lying.

Uchtdorf has lowered the bar for everyone. If a General Authority at the highest levels can get away with breaking Church Policy and ignoring his contract, then so can other leaders who are serving in less important positions. Church Policy can simply be ignored based on the merits of personal values and opinion.

I think there is going to be a lot of leaders that are going to bend the rules from here on out.

Journalist Robert Gehrke hints that Dieter may have lied when issuing statement about political donations...

It created a bit of stir this month when federal reports showed that Latter-day Saint apostle Dieter Uchtdorf had given money to the campaign of President Joe Biden as well as those of two Democratic U.S. Senate candidates in Georgia.

Uchtdorf issued a statement explaining that the donations — which violated church rules against leaders contributing to political candidates — were accidentally made in his name through a shared family account and stating that he regretted the mistake.

I spent some time tinkering with the ActBlue platform where the donations were inadvertently, incorrectly made and couldn’t figure out how it would happen.
