But you will go in as a servant in one of the lower orders within the Celestial Kingdom and participate in celestial glory but will not be exalted among the gods in the highest degree of celestial glory. You get to be a servant but not a god.
Was this originally taught in order to promote polygamy?

I think so. Marital status is the most important thing in the Church. Smith, at the end of his ministry (D&C 131) made it clear that unless one enters the new and everlasting covenant of marriage they cannot enter into the highest order of celestial glory and therefore cannot have an increase. Well, we all know what form of marriage was considered the most important because succeeding Church Presidents such as Brigham Young and John Taylor made it perfectly clear. Yes, that was the OLD Mormon Church. It doesn't exist anymore. Today's Church is a mutant offshoot of the original and hardly bears any resemblance of the original. Certainly, Brigham Young wouldn't recognize today's Mormon Church or accept it as valid. Smith would excommunicate it.

In his talk about there being "Room in the inn" Gong said the following:
Also, the majority of adult Church members are now unmarried, widowed, or divorced. This is a significant change. It includes more than half our Relief Society sisters and more than half our adult priesthood brothers. This demographic pattern has been the case in the worldwide Church since 1992 and in the Church in the United States and Canada since 2019.

Our standing before the Lord and in His Church is not a matter of our marital status but of our becoming faithful and valiant disciples of Jesus Christ.

Gong is wrong. He clearly doesn't know the requirements for exaltation.
Gospel Principles Chapter 47 "Exaltation"
To be exalted, we first must place our faith in Jesus Christ and then endure in that faith to the end of our lives. Our faith in Him must be such that we repent of our sins and obey His commandments.
He commands us all to receive certain ordinances:
We must be baptized.
We must receive the laying on of hands to be confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ and to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Brethren must receive the Melchizedek Priesthood and magnify their callings in the priesthood.
We must receive the temple endowment.
We must be married for eternity, either in this life or in the next.

So our standing before the Lord is a matter of our marital status. If you don't get married, you don't get in to the Celestial Kingdom.

The Gospel Principles Manual for the marriage part used to read as follows.
4. We must be married for time and eternity.

https://web.archive.org/web/20040803131 ... 59,00.html

The LDS Church in the past was more in urging the single people to get married, especially the single brethren. Back in 1988, LDS President Ezra Taft Benson gave a conference talk urging the single brethren to get married.
Understand that temple marriage is essential to your salvation and exaltation.

...

My dear single adult brethren, we are also concerned. We want you to know that the position of the Church has never changed regarding the importance of celestial marriage. It is a commandment of God. The Lord’s declaration in Genesis is still true: “And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone” (Gen. 2:18).

To obtain a fulness of glory and exaltation in the celestial kingdom, one must enter into this holiest of ordinances.

Without marriage, the purposes of the Lord would be frustrated. Choice spirits would be withheld from the experience of mortality. And postponing marriage unduly often means limiting your posterity, and the time will come, brethren, when you will feel and know that loss.

Di you suspect they would let out a WTF shriek of alarm upon seeing single people not actively marginalized?

Thanks Brack, for demonstrating that this is yet another example of the Church following where society leads.

It wasn't that long ago (10 years?) that the Church decided to segregate wards by marital status. Was the revelation that prompted their introduction wrong? Will the Church now end this segregation of single adults as they clearly need single priesthood holders to serve in previously "married only" callings?

Hold on there, Gong! What about penis size?
Do celestial women get a say?

 No wonder why you once asked someone here to show his penis.

By the way, who said this? "why you really want to hump them, or at least one really hot one (and definitely not a Mexican girl)."

and why did you defend that racist comment?

Hey little girl, would you like some candy?

Jeez, it's good that it was only Gong shaking her hand and in 2022. If it were Joe Biden in 2020, we'd not hear the end of accusations, "see, see, he's molesting a young girl. He's a sexual predator."
