In this case it was almost certainly the homophobic slur. I would have immediately banned “Chapstick” too.Gadianton wrote:
Do we know what constitutes a strike? Is criticizing "Witnesses" really grounds for getting banned over there?

Sledge,
Don't you think it's at least equally likely that the proprietor would have taken similar offense if the wording were different? After all, Chapstick was already on "strike 3".
I'd say the mod wasn't up for having an insult thrown his way. Besides, do you really think the proprietor and his most valued clientele are offended by homophobic remarks? I have a really hard time imagining the proprietor banning somebody from his blog out of respect for anything lgbq+. Trump skepticism aside, these guys are still major conservatives and cite blogs like "American thinker" and "national review" all the time.
Finally, I'm not so sure the 'slur' is decidedly homophobic. It seems as likely, if not more likely, to have arisen as a reference to a severe "spanking" or "butt kicking". Adding insult to injury, the apologists know very well all the times they've gotten their asses handed to them in ass whooping after ass whooping over the years. The painful reminder from Chapstick must have been too much for the dam to hold back.
Googling the term, it doesn't seem constrained to only conservative sources. A Huffington Post article came up with the term, and if they didn't censure it for political correctness, it's for damn sure the proprietor of SeN wouldn't either.

Butthurt is a gay slur now? Wha . . . ? I always thought it is what I got when my parent took a switch to my hiney.
Gay slur?
Um, no.
Gay slur?
Um, no.

If someone were to suggest Kiwi was a "nutcase" would you interpret that to mean he is a scrotum?

Hugh Nibley claimed he bumped into Adolf Hitler, Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill, Gertrude Stein, and the Grand Duke Vladimir Romanoff. Dishonesty is baked into Mormonism.

I wonder how this effort originated. Were seminary and institute instructors asked to promote the trailer in their classes? If so, who asked them?Dr LOD wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 8:27 pmIt is being heavily promoted throughout CES. I don't see an appetite out there for religious "theatrical films" unless done by someone who the public knows will be making fun of religion or exposing cult aspects of it or where religion is not the main topic.
However, good luck DCP.

Didn't the BYU religion dept have some sort of contract for the film after donating something like $125,000? Would that trickle down to other CES programs?Tom wrote: ↑Tue May 18, 2021 3:22 pmI wonder how this effort originated. That sounds right, Lem. I recall the old Witnesses website noted that BYU Religious Education had contracted for rights to make the film part of the curriculum. Did you read about the $125,000 contribution on SeN?

If I recall correctly, when the donations were at about a million, it was mentioned both that BYU had made a donation related to showing the film in their religion department, but also that no single donor had given more than an eighth of that. It seemed like an attempt to argue that since BYU's contribution was small relative to the total they wouldn't have any undue influence on the decisions related to the film.
Re: "Witnesses" Smashes the Competition in iTunes Trailer Downloads
Two rumors:the release of Witnesses in early June, has forced the new James Bond movie to be pushed back once again to early fall 2021; and two Witnesses may not make it to the screen at all because the NAACP and NOW are complaining that not one official witness is black and not one is female. Thus the film is alleged to be overtly racist and reeks of white elitism and privilege. Where is Elijah Abel and his wife when you need them?
