ANZAC greetings

Post by _Danna »

Mainly to fellow downunderites. My family is preparing for an 0430 start tomorrow. What I find special about the day is that we remember uncles and granduncles, aunts and grandaunts. Most of those who died were too young to leave children. All of my time in the Army I was someone's auntie. So I guess keenly appreciate the sacrifice of those who died for someone else's children, and I am glad we take one day to remember.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
