Is Bazooka "obnoxious"?

Post by _Bazooka »

In a recent thread "To the believer: what would prove the Church false?" I was accused by Don Bradley of being 'obnoxious'.

A very harsh judgement in my opinion, given that I only did two things that could have possible ruffled his feathers.

1. This:
Bazooka wrote:Thanks Don.
Given the amount of research and searching for evidence that has happened since the Book of Mormon was produced in the early 1800's.
What do you feel is the strongest evidence to date that supports the empirical LDS claims about it?

Don Bradley wrote:Hi Bazooka,
I initially came on just to answer a question about whether I agreed with my old post. That led to answering a question about how worldviews affect probability judgments, which in turn led to answering one about worldviews and the catalyst theory and another about historicity claims as empirical claims, which has now led to your question on the evidence for Book of Mormon historicity. Since I don't want to get into that topic right now, and since there is no possible way that answering that question won't open up a whole new set of questions, I'll forbear.
Perhaps down the line, maybe after my lost 116 pages book, I'll be up to opening that whole huge topic of evidence for and against historical Nephites.
Cheers,
Don

Bazooka wrote:Don, this wasn't a difficult question to answer so why the "abandon ship" routine?
This is a discussion forum, where people come to discuss.
Do you come just to advertise your books?

2. And this:
Don Bradley wrote:Just so you'll know when I return to the board again another time, it's my policy to treat other posters constructively and as I'd like to be treated, even if they don't extend the same courtesy to me. This usually leads to good will all the way around and to some really cool discussion. But on the rare occasions when another poster continually refuses to reciprocate that courtesy, I eventually save us both the trouble by putting them on ignore. You seem like a decent guy with some interesting questions, and I'd rather engage your future posts than ignore them. But which I'll do is really up to you.
Regards,
Don

Just so you'll know when you return to the board again another time, it's my policy to answer questions posed of me in a thread where I have posted my views, thoughts, findings and opinions. Even if that question doesn't seem to me to be what I came on the thread to do. This usually leads to reciprocal behaviour all round and to some really cool discussion. But on rare occasions when another poster continually refuses to reciprocate that courtesy, I eventually save both of us the trouble by putting them on ignore. You seem like a decent guy with some interesting contributions, and I'd rather engage your future posts with the chance of receiving a decent answer in return than ignore them. But which I'll do is really up to you.

Which resulted in this:
Don Bradley wrote:Bazooka,
You really seem to think I have a moral obligation to answer every question anyone asks every time I go onto a message board. If you really believe that you yourself are obliged to do that, I pity you for not having respect for the time that comprises your life.
Fortunately, your obnoxious response has saved me the trouble of deciding later whether to continue reading your posts. I see you've written another post directed at me, but if you wanted me to read that or answer any future questions, you should have thought of that before deciding to completely alienate me.
I sincerely hope your journey takes you to good places. But since you've made it clear what the tenor of your future posts will be, I know enough now to ignore them.
Ciao,
Don

Tobin wrote:Don,
I've found many posters on this forum have the same attitude and take the same approach that Bazooka/Buffalo does. And I've had him on ignore for a while because of his behavior. Some people, like yourself, are genuinely interesting and fun to discuss things with on this forum and I most often look for threads started by and posts by these people.
Anyway, I appreciate your posts on the forum and it has been very informative reading your responses on this thread.
All the best,
Tobin

So, in the spirit of growth and learning I would like feedback from the boards posters (and I will take your feedback squarely on the chin with no quibble providing you support your feedback with references to my online behaviour) on my "obnoxious" behaviour.
ob·nox·ious
/əbˈnäkSHəs/
Adjective
Extremely unpleasant.
Synonyms
odious - abhorrent - abominable - loathsome - hateful

(I would agree to being called 'ascerbic', 'challenging', 'awkward', 'inappropriate', 'irreverent', but not 'obnoxious')

As I am on 'ignore' with Don and Tobin I don't suspect they will contribute, but everyone else please feel free to show me the error of my ways, or likewise, if you feel Don (and Tobin) have been a tad delicate with their online sensitivities.

Fire away......
That said, with the Book of Mormon, we are not dealing with a civilization with no written record. What we are dealing with is a written record with no civilization. (Runtu, Feb 2015)
