Time is running out for Ted Nugent

Post by _MeDotOrg »

Last April, NRA Board Member Ted Nugent said that if Barack Obama was re-elected, "I'll either be dead or in jail in a year."

Ted's last year of freedom is rapidly coming to an end. Even as I write this, an elite squad of jihadist ACORN commandos, along with members of the Indonesian Madrassa Liberation Army and The Kenyan Anti-Colonialist League, blessed by a terrorist fist bump from Michelle Obama and led by the ghost of Saul Alinsky are silently snaking through the hills of Michigan in a line of black Toyota Prii (look it up) to fire the opening shots in The War to Disarm the American People!

Or not.

I wonder what Ted will say when he wakes up one day next month and realizes that the government is not coming for him. Will he wonder if he has fundamentally misjudged the character and intentions of the Obama Administration? Will he see his miscalculation as a result of being blinded by his own fear and paranoia?

I'm leaning towards 'no'.

I have a former neighbor of mine who is an editor for CNNi and--as most normal people would guess--he's very liberal (comes with the job, it would seem). During the last election, when at one point it seemed to him that Obama was going to lose he lamented, "the thing that bothers me the most about the right is all the immature gloating." Your post just reminded me of that for some reason.

I'm wondering about all those liberals who promised to move to Canada when Bush was elected and re-elected. I'm willing to bet most of them never left.

I'm not gloating because Obama was elected. I am simply pointing out that the hyperbolic paranoid predictions of a left-wing dictator have not occurred.

Most crazy doesn't come packaged with an expiration date. Mr. Nugent happened to supply one. It makes it a lot easier to qualify than an open-ended prediction. In short, when it doesn't happen, you can call him on it.

I make fun of Ted Nugent's viewpoint because, sadly, people listen to him. He's an NRA board member (which should tell you something about the qualifications for being an NRA board member). He has addressed the Texas State Legislature. He was Congressman Steve Stockman's guest at the State of the Union speech.

Harold Camping, the minister who predicted the end of the world (twice) had a brief consultation with reality and found the courage to admit he was wrong. I hope (but doubt) Mr. Nugent will do the same.

The American experiment in democracy is larger than the Democratic Party. It is larger than the Republican Party, and it is larger than the Tea Party. People from the ideological extremes of the left or the right cannot imagine that democracy exists outside of their limited political horizons. And yet somehow the ship of state sails on.

Yes, indeedy, "move to Canada" compares well with "dead or in jail".
