We call it being disenfranchised, a.k.a. the current state of the American middle class, who always seem to bear most of the tax burden. Washington doesn't hear them either.

A friend of mine interviewed Obama at length (more than an hour) for my friend's radio show circa 1996. He said that Obama was slick but was arrogant and superficial.
