Does this mean we're not friends?

If we met in person, I'm sure we would get along just fine.

It will double, triple and even quadruple in the next five years. People that went to Colorado or other states for legal pot will now go to Southern California where the weather is fairly good 12 months a year. They can get a super powerful joint, a forty and some place to relax and you won't see them for many days. People that do that continuously on the weekend will not be in good shape on Monday for work and their work will suffer and then they will be let go. That's my prediction.

Legal marijuana has only nominal effects on marijuana use Karl, even among young people.

So if you believe legal recreational marijuana is going to cause a massive collapse in work attendance leading to homelessness, you have to account for why it hasn't already and why little to no change in abuse rates would create such a spike.

As to the OP, the real story isn't the absolute total of homeless in LA, but the fact that it increased considerably in the past 6 years while the economy was enjoying a significant drop in unemployment.

It takes a lot more than getting a $10/hr job to get a place to live in California. Politicians talk about unemployment and job creation. But we never dare talk about the quality of those jobs.
“There were mothers who took this [Rodney King LA riots] as an opportunity to take some milk, to take some bread, to take some shoes ... They are not crooks.”

This liberal would be about socializing … uh, umm. … Would be about, basically, taking over, and the government running all of your companies.

I agree that the numbers/stats are not there for employment, but I think the homeless population will significantly increase in the next few years due to the weather and access to pot.

If you make ten dollars an hour in Los Angeles you need three other roommates and two bunk beds for your 1500 dollar a month studio apartment; that's if you can find a studio apartment.

Bach wrote:WTF is the big surprise? LA is just another democratic controlled city who’s liberal policies are coming home to roost. Now they want to be just another “53rd Sanctuary State”! I say let them do it, God bless, and see if the can find the intellectual capital to manage such chaos. I would gladly vote to let California seceed back to Mexico. Solves virtually all of the DACA problem.

Like Margaret Thatcher said long ago: “Socialism is great until you run out of other people’s money”. The LA homeless problem is living proof. Companies have been leaving LA (and California) for years because of liberal ideals! Go Texas!

Geography and climate have something to do with the situation. In general, west coast cities aren't as cold. It's easier to survive on the streets.

San Francisco has a large homeless population due to the combination of insanely high occupancy rates and high rents, a relatively mild climate, and good homeless services.

It's interesting that you use the expression 'God Bless' with respect to finding the intellectual capital the manage the chaos. It's like there is a part of you that does not to recognize this human suffering that occurs every day is a part of the human condition for a lot of Americans. Consequently a city that shields you from this reality is a better city. So do Americans in Buffalo feel morally superior because they have fewer homeless?

The idea that a city makes it more difficult for a homeless person to survive is somehow a better city is bereft of compassion. I remember briefly when Republicans liked to use the phrase 'compassionate conservatism'. Ah, the old days...
