Shades...this is for you

Turning Japanese
The Vapors

I've got your picture of me and you
You wrote "I love you" I love you too
I sit there staring and there's nothing else to do
Oh it's in color Your hair is brown
Your eyes are hazel And soft as clouds
I often kiss you when there's no one else around
I've got your picture, I've got your picture
I'd like a million of them all round my cell
I asked the doctor to take your picture
So I can look at you from inside as well
You've got me turning up and turning down
And turning in and turning 'round
I'm turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
Turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
I'm turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
Turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
I've got…

To uncanny encounters.

The Man Who Sold The World
David Bowie

We passed upon the stair,
We spoke of was and when
Although I wasn't there,
He said I was his friend

Which came as some surprise
I spoke into his eyes
I thought you died alone,
A long-long time ago

Oh, no, not me
I never lost control
You're face to face
With the man who sold the world

I laughed and shook his hand,
And made my way back home
I searched for form and land,
For years and years I roamed

I gazed a gazely stare
At all the millions here
We must have died alone,
A long-long time ago

Who knows? Not me
We never lost control
You're face to face
With the man who sold the world

Who knows? Not me
We never lost control
You're face to face
With the man who sold the world

(This thread wouldn't be complete without at least one Vampire Weekend song.)

To people who left the church but feel the need to explain themselves.

Obvious Bicycle
Vampire Weekend

Morning’s come, you watch the red sunrise
The LED still flickers in your eyes
Oh you oughta spare your face the razor
Because no one’s gonna spare the time for you

No one’s gonna watch you as you go
From a house you didn’t build and can’t control
Oh you oughta spare your face the razor
Because no one’s gonna spare the time for you
You oughta spare the world your labor
It’s been 20 years and no one’s told the truth

So listen oh, so listen oh
Don’t wait, don’t wait

So keep that list of who to thank in mind
And don’t forget the rich ones who were kind
Oh you oughta spare your face the razor
Because no one’s gonna spare the time for you
Why don’t you spare the world a traitor
Take your wager back and leave before you lose

So while the sun’s coming up
Cover ground, cover ground
And if you find some love for these clowns
Turn around, turn around

We’ll be half asleep on the floor of our high school gym
Thinking of you and wondering if anyone else could begin

To listen, listen
Don’t wait, don’t wait

For every couple that left the church together, felt exhilarated, and then ended up breaking up.

Hannah Hunt
Vampire Weekend

A gardener told me some plants move, but I could not believe it
'Til me and Hannah Hunt saw crawling vines and weeping willows
As we made our way from Providence to Phoenix

A man of faith said hidden eyes could see what I was thinking
I just smiled and told him that was only true of Hannah
And we glided on through Waverly and Lincoln

Our days were long, our nights no longer
Count the seconds, watching the hours
Though we live on the US dollar
You and me, we got our own sense of time

In Santa Barbara, Hannah cried "I miss those freezing beaches"
I walked into town to buy some kindling for the fire
Hannah tore the New York Times up into pieces

If I can't trust you, then damn it, Hannah
There's no future, there's no answer
Though we live on the US dollar
You and me we got our own sense of time

This one always makes me think of Kish for some reason.

Ya Hey
Vampire Weekend

Oh, sweet thing
Zion doesn't love you
And Babylon don't love you
But you love everything

Oh, you saint
America don't love you
So I could never love you
In spite of everything

In the dark of this place
There's the glow of your face
There's the dust on the screen
Of this broken machine
And I can't help but feel
That I've made some mistake
But I let it go
Ya Hey

Through the fire and through the flames
You won't even say your name
Only "I am that I am"
But who could ever live that way?
Ut Deo, Ya Hey
Ut Deo, Deo

Oh, the motherland don't love you
The fatherland don't love you
So why love anything?

Oh, good God
The faithless they don't love you
The zealous hearts don't love you
And that's not gonna change

All the cameras and files
All the paranoid styles
All the tension and fear
Of a secret career
And I can't help but think
That you've seen the mistake
But you let it go
Ya Hey

Through the fire and through the flames
You won't even say your name
You say "I am what I am"
But who could ever live that way?
Ut Deo, Ya Hey
Ut Deo, Deo

Outside the tents, on the festival grounds
As the air began to cool, and the sun went down
My soul swooned, as I faintly heard the sound
Of you spinning "Israelites"
Into "19th Nervous Breakdown"

I’ve refrained from posting anything but lyrics up to this point. These lyrics, however, feel so familiar to me that I can’t help but thank you for posting them. Thank you!

Not going to post the whole song, but this is one of my all-time favorite lines.

"It's Too Late"
The Streets

We first met through a shared view
She loved me and I did too

---------------------------------------------------
"Not The Same"
Ben Folds
University Choral Version
(As an aside, I was at a concert of his where he performed this song. He had the entire audience harmonize at the end. It was bloody brilliant.)

You took a trip and climbed a tree
At Robert Sledge's party
And there you stayed 'till morning came
And you were not the same after that

You gave your life to Jesus Christ
And after all your friends went home
You came down, you looked around
And you were not the same after that

You were not the same after that
You were not the same after that

[Chorus]
You see 'em drop like flies from the bright sunny skies
They come knocking at your door with this look in their eyes
You've got one good trick and you're hanging on you're hanging on...
To it

You took the word, and made it heard
And eased the people's pain, and for that
You were idolized, immortalized
And you were not the same after that

Walking tall, you'd bought it all
And you were not the same after that
Till someone died on the water slide
And you were not the same after that

Funny. My itunes is set to random and just yesterday, Depeche Mode's "Everything Counts" came on . I love that song. What was even better was that it was the live version from Depeche Mode 101 from the Rose Bowl.

The White Stripes
"Little Room"

Well you're in your little room
And you're working on something good
But if it's really good
You're gonna need a bigger room

And when you're in the bigger room
You might not know what to do
You might have to think of
How you got started sitting in your little room
