Stephen Hawking has passed away
I am deeply saddened that learn that world renowned physicist Stephen Hawking has passed away at age 76. I never met the man, but his work touched my life as it did countless others. His book, A Brief History of Time changed the trajectory of my education and career. He was a brilliant and extraordinary scientist, one of the greatest of his generation.
RIP Stephen.

How long before he’s posthumously baptised a Mormon?
“When we are confronted with evidence that challenges our deeply held beliefs we are more likely to reframe the evidence than we are to alter our beliefs. We simply invent new reasons, new justifications, new explanations. Sometimes we ignore the evidence altogether.” (Mathew Syed 'Black Box Thinking')

I have a question wrote:How long before he’s posthumously baptised a Mormon?
he's already got a record created, with sources and his death date included. Someone could definitely create a new record of him, with a death date of last year and run him through the temple process....I guess we'll see if it happens.
Someone named Mark Donnelly addes his death date on March 13 as being March 14. I don't know how that happened. I guess there's a host of familsearch users chomping at the bit. How did he know he'd die the day before he actually died?

Ironically and appropriately, Hawking died on Einstein's birthday of March 14th and also on what is affectionately referred to as Pi Day or π 3.14

He died on March 14 in the U.K. It was still March 13 in the US.

Really...how fitting. I admired his wisdom...I hope somewhere in the recesses of his documents..he has requested not to be baptized into anything.Craig Paxton wrote:Ironically and appropriately, Hawking died on Einstein's birthday of March 14th and also on what is affectionately referred to as Pi Day or π 3.14

Honestly? I'm kind of happy he's dead. Dude was brilliant. Got it. But dayum, he's been crap ting himself for what? 50 years? That poor man. I wouldn't wish what he had on my worst enemy. Thank goodness he gifted us with his insights on reality, but I'm glad he doesn't have to be trapped in that body anymore.

From Yahoo:
5 Things Hawking Left Us to Ponder
- “Success in creating effective A.I. could be the biggest event in the history of our civilization or the worst,” Hawking said at Web Summit last year. “We cannot know if we will be infinitely helped by A.I. or ignored by it and sidelined or conceivably destroyed by it.”
- Aliens will basically eat us and our planet
- We probably won't meet aliens. Ever.
- “We are running out of space, and the only place we can go to are other worlds." This is why I'm good with sterilizing people. I'm snipped, if that matters.
- Climate change is probably an extinction event.
I wonder what his recommended courses of actions for humanity was outside of going to the stars...

I look forward to Bach’s thread on how he personally worked with Steven Hawckeen.
